Margaux Derhy () à la JAAL ART RESIDENCES ()

Margaux Derhy, après sa dévotion à la broderie à la main à Massa, au sud du Maroc, a établi un lien significatif entre son atelier et la JAAL. Cette collaboration avec des passementières au sein des ateliers de JAAL met en évidence le caractère cosmopolite de son œuvre. L'exposition présente cinq œuvres à grande échelle, des poèmes visuels tissés dans le patio principal, narratifs des histoires collectives et individuelles de femmes ordinaires devenues muses immortelles, avec des figures telles que Lydia, Fibi, et d'autres.

The 2024 1-54 () Contemporary African Art Fair’s Morocco edition held at the prestigious Marrakech’s Mamounia hotel, but for the first time, it also took place at DADA, a multidisciplinary art space that is currently mid-renovation. Take a look at our favorite booths from this years edition.

Mounir Ayache’s ( b. 1991, FR/MA) technological creations cast an unfamiliar light on the political and social realities of the Arab world. By envisioning alternate futures, Ayache proposes an image of the Arab world radically different from those circulated in the West. His sci-fi approach weaves together family histories, fictionalised re-appropriations of experiences and Arab identities. These traits situate Ayache within the emergent movement of Arabfuturism, which derives its name from the Afrofuturism movement in the 90s. Both Afro and Arabfuturism are characterised by a turn to fiction that allows us to imagine vastly different realities. Ayache knowingly deploys the tropes of “oriental sci-fi” in order to parody the way Western fictions represent “Others” and “Foreigners”. In addition to drawing on the codes of the sci-fi genre, his use of technology blurs the boundaries between contemporary art and entertainment.

The sculptures of Mounir Ayache ( b. 1991, FR/MA, lives & works between Paris and Marseille) evoke an imaginary journey written and developed during his residency year at the Villa Medici () : that of Hassan Al Wazzan, known as Leo Africanus, who, in the 16th century, during the sack of Rome, discovers a spatio-temporal portal in the tunnels of the Pincio and finds himself in the 26th century, where he follows the traces of his past journeys. The sculptures represent environments and objects created using 3D printing and digital milling, where traditional and digital sculptures blend to create fictional virtual worlds.
