Insane coincidence : we’re moving in a former catholic private school that used to be a bastide ( country estates in Marseille ). I discovered the estate was built by and belonged to Pierre Puget, a renowned renaissance architect, sculptor and painter who studied and worked with Italian Barocco masters. He was a pupil of Pietro Da Cortona and his sculptures rivaled those of Michelangelo and Bernini. His success led him to work for French aristocracy and Louis XIV himself, who ordered him sculptures for Versailles gardens.

His former estate is now a heritage site and has been preserved for centuries. This room, called the Chinese room for its wall panel theme, used to be his dining room. Apparently, there is only one other example of Chinese themed wood paneled room in France like this one. The place is now being renovated and divided into appartements.
