Incredible result for The Celtic Male Ensemble who were crowned Festival Champions at the Cornwall International Male Choir Festival today!

We can't wait to see them in Festival Interceltique de Lorient this summer.

What a fantastic day. We were crowned Festival champions and were awarded 4 other prizes including best overall piece for Who wants to live forever at the Cornwall International Male Choral Festival. Congratulations to all those who made this festival possible and to our fellow competitors, Peterborough Male Voice Choir, Mousehole Male Voice Choir and Risca Male choir from Wales. We owe the usual huge debt to our fabulous MD Alastair Taylor for all of his amazing work to get us to this high standard.

Our next performers at the Festival Interceltique de Lorient for the Year of Cornwall at the Heart of the Celtic Sea are Kekezza!

Kekezza will be representing Cornwall across the festival from performing each night in the Horizons Celtiques show in the stadium, to performances at the Espace Jean-Pierre Pichard and Place des Pays Celtes stages. You can also learn Cornish dance with them at the Salle Carnot Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday during the festival!

"Kekezza brings together dancers and musicians who are passionate about preserving and evolving Cornwall’s rich dance heritage. Their performances blend traditional steps with fresh energy, breathing new life into centuries-old customs and sharing them with audiences both local and international.

Their name means “heather” in Cornish and is inspired by the heather-covered landscapes of Cornwall, the team wears costumes in shades of purple and pink, echoing the wild flora that thrives across the moors.

Their traditional costumes are based on 19th century working dress with the iconic headdress or ‘gogh’ which is specific to the Redruth mining area, where the group is based.

Kekezza are celebrating their 20th anniversary in 2026 and are delighted to be returning to the Lorient Interceltic Festival for the Year of Cornwall! "

Our next performers for the Year of Cornwall at the Heart of the Celtic Sea at Festival Interceltique de Lorient 2026 are Banjovial Music!

They will be performing on the Place des Pays Celtes stage on Sunday 2nd August as well as various other times around the festival and in the Garden of Cornwall.

"Forged on the rugged North Cornish coast, Banjovial was brought to life by friends Calum, Jamie and Tom, with the sole intention of merging time served seagoing experiences with exquisite musicianship and delivering to audiences far and wide. As the music developed, Celtic passion and a love of old time found its natural place, and out of the melting pot came an identity that blends the region's rich maritime heritage with infectious rhythms and melodies, creating a sound that is both nostalgic and exhilarating.

Having played extensively together as part of the popular Celtic folk band The Stowes, the trio seamlessly intertwine with each other’s unique playing style to create an energetic, yet effortless musical experience, masterfully weaving the rich traditions of nautical songs and shanties with the vibrant sounds of Celtic and bluegrass music.

From self-penned songs of seafaring and misadventure to sing-along folk ballads and shanties dutifully mixed with fast paced jigs and reels, this genre defining trio have made a space they proudly refer to as Shanty Grass.

Inspiration is drawn from every direction, and fans of We Banjo 3, Gaelic Storm, Skipinnish and The Longest John’s (to name just a few!) will feel comfortingly familiar in this space. The collaboration between Irish Banjo maestro Damien O’Kane and Bluegrass heavyweight Ron Block in particular was pivotal to the vision and creation of Banjovial.

So, whether you're a seafaring soul or a landlocked dreamer, Banjovial invites you to join them on a musical journey that celebrates the enduring spirit of the sea and endless quest for musical perfection. "

Our next performers for the Year of Cornwall at the Heart of the Celtic Sea at Interceltique de Lorient 2026 are The Celtic Male Ensemble!

They will be representing Cornwall in the flagship show, Horizons Celtiques, in the Lorient Football Stadium 5 nights over the festival as well as various others performances around the festival and the Grande Parade!

"The Celtic Male Ensemble was formed in 2014 by musical director Alastair Taylor to perform the winning entry of the Cornwall International Male Choral Festival composer’s competition. From that moment on, the group caught the singing “bug” and hasn’t looked back since.

They have performed across Cornwall, from the stunning Minack Theatre at Porthcurno to multiple appearances at Truro Cathedral, including a memorable performance with internationally renowned tenor John Treleaven.

They have won Best Cornish Choir & Overall Winner 2019, 2022, & 2024 and Best UK Choir in 2019 & 2022 at the Cornwall International Male Choral Festival.
The Celtic Male Ensemble are delighted and excited to be performing at the Lorient Interceltic Festival—especially in a year when Cornwall is honoured and celebrated. They are looking forward to sharing our music, showcasing our heritage, and making new friends and connections.

See you there—good health, cheers, or as we say in Cornwall, Yeghes da!"

First of our performers for the Year of Cornwall at the Heart of the Celtic Sea at the Festival Interceltique de Lorient 2026 is Barrett's Privateers ! They will be performing in the opening concert for Cornwall, various performances on festival stages and will be collaborating with Breton shanty group Nordet!

If you can't wait until August then don't worry, you can see both groups at the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival in June!

"Formed in 2019 and based on the Cornish side of the beautiful Tamar Valley, the group met through a joy of acapella singing in local pubs, and Barrett’s Privateers was born.

From the deep, resonating notes of the father and son bass to the high notes of the girls, Barrett's Privateers have delighted audiences throughout Cornwall and well beyond, with their broad, rich harmonies. They take each song and make it their own, with each of the voices finding a way to complement its neighbour. The power and harmony within their lively performances are both enjoyable and hugely entertaining.

Singing songs of the sea, shanties, traditional folk, Cornish and mining songs, the group have been honoured to perform at a range of events from the Interceltique Festival in Lorient, Royal Cornwall Show, Rock Oyster and prestigious Canterbury Festival of Music and Fine Arts."
