Beginning of MALODRYCK’s new album!

A project that will definitely appeal to Iron Maiden fans, but not only !
the band is also bringing a more modern approach to both the songwriting and the production, which makes the whole thing really exciting.

Drum tracking is going great, with 4 songs already recorded !

On the gear side, we’re using a mix of some familiar favorites and a few less usual choices:

• Trash Talk Audio telephone microphone
• A complete switch-up of my room mic setup: the Griffon microphones GMT-120s are absolutely fantastic as close room mics, while the A-21s in ORTF, close to the ceiling, create a huge sense of space.
• The return of the Oktava MK-012s on the toms
• And, of course, the FET-A47 on kick out

For the drums:

• ASBA Simone shells 22x16 , 10/12/16
• ASBA Top Lug, tuned fairly high
• A brand-new set of Zildjian A Custom, part of the studio backline

Everything is coming together really nicely so far.

MIX — Rue de la Forge

Mixing the next album of « Rue de la Forge », and what a pleasure this one!

A very fluid, typically hybrid mix , analog + digital , with my faithful IGS Audio hardware once again playing an important part in the chain.

The mix came together very naturally, mainly because we made some great decisions during the recording process, and the artistic direction of the project was clear from the very beginning.

I’m particularly proud of the result. Blending all these different styles was definitely not an easy task, but somehow, everything fits together perfectly.

A huge thank you, a thousand times over, to Rue de la Forge for their trust, their incredible work and for letting me be part of this project. ❤️

HISTOIRES DE PROD — Épisode 9 !

Bienvenue dans "Histoires de Prod", une série de vidéos où l’on vous emmène dans les coulisses des sessions d’enregistrement : les bons moments, les imprévus, les galères ( ou pas ) et surtout l'ensemble des choix qui façonnent une production.

Dans cet épisode, on revient sur la session du 3 ieme album de "Rue de la Forge" un groupe capable de mélanger du gros Metal, du chant purement RAP et des instruments traditionnels ( comme la cornemuse, la vielle a roue, les orchestrations et autres ) .On passe en r***e tout ce qui a fait cette production : batterie, basse, guitares, amplis, micros, technique et choix artistiques.

Le planning 2026 est désormais complet, et il ne reste actuellement qu’un seul créneau disponible pour un album en 2027. Deux autres sessions sont déjà réservées pour 2028.

Received this beautiful Zildjian A Custom pack today! 🥁

A Custom is probably my favourite Zildjian series, alongside the K series

These cymbals will now be added to the studio’s backline, available for bands recording here.

In my opinion, offering a wide backline is essential for a recording studio. Having a broad palette of instruments and sounds means giving each band more options to find the right sonic identity — and ultimately being able to make sure we get the sound we actually want.

And that applies to every instrument in the studio, not just drums. The more colours you have available, the more possibilities you can offer.

As is becoming something of a tradition, between the end of a band’s tracking sessions and the beginning of the mix, I like to reset my ears with a mastering project.

This time, it’s Cosmoclones, a home-recorded project. From the mix, it seemed that the producer/mixer was aiming for a very organic sound, with a distinct garage character.

So the challenge was to respect and enhance that direction rather than polish it away.

I started by running the mix through my IGS 573 preamps, then pushed the transformer coloration a little further through the IGS Volfram in “AMP” mode, before hitting my usual mastering chain: the EQ825 and TubeCore 3U.

Those last two probably come as no surprise if you know my work — but I simply like them too much not to use them. 🙂

We’ve started tracking the new Rue de la Forge record. 🔥

The vocals are essentially rap, which made this a real technical challenge — but also an artistic question:

how do you approach this type of vocal in such a dense Metal universe, especially when it’s surrounded by so many traditional instruments?

The challenge was to give the voice enough presence and character to cut through the arrangement!

For this, I started with my traditional Griffon Microphones GMT-12 chain, going through an IGS EQ 825, followed by my usual compression setup: IGS Volfram + One LA Rack.

But I added a Shure SM7B, and then completely abused it on compression 😈😈😈

More than 10 dB of gain reduction on the Volfram 1176, followed by almost another 10 dB on the One LA-500, pushing the vocal into an extremely dense, aggressive and upfront sound.

The goal was simple: make the vocal cut through this massive mix without using any effects.

And I think the bet paid off.

But the biggest credit goes to jerome. The performance was absolutely exemplary — perfectly controlled, perfectly in place, and incredibly consistent.

When the performance is that solid, you can really push the technical side and go after the sound you have in your head.

Rue De La Forge Griffon microphones

✨ We did something we don’t usually do: we recorded acoustic guitar in the MIXING ROOM.

The recording sessions for the next Rue de la Forge album are moving forward!

For this particular part, the Live Room just wasn’t giving us the vibe we were after. We wanted the acoustic guitar to feel more intimate, closer and more upfront, so we moved the mic setup into the mixing room ;)

We went full A-Studio with an M/S setup:

🎙️ A-Studio A-21 — Side

A simple setup, but a very specific sound — exactly what this song needed.
