Some landscapes stay with us long after we’ve left them.

A particular stretch of coastline.
The light at the end of a summer evening.
A hill you climbed years ago.
A place that somehow still feels like home.

That’s what I’m trying to capture in my landscape paintings — not simply what a place looks like, but what it feels like to remember it.

I paint in oils, using light, colour and atmosphere to create paintings that hopefully stir something familiar: a memory, a feeling, a moment you thought you’d forgotten.

Because perhaps the most meaningful art doesn’t just decorate a room.

It takes you somewhere.

Sometimes you don’t need a grand gesture.

Just a little brass frog that belongs to the woman you love… and the urge to paint it. 🐸🎨

She thought it was romantic.

I wasn’t trying to prove anything.

I just liked the little fellow.

There are some things you paint because they are beautiful.

And some things you paint because they mean something to you.

If you want to be creative, you have to be willing to play — to experiment, make mistakes, follow your instincts and see where the painting takes you.

That’s a big part of my process as a landscape painter. I’m not simply trying to reproduce a place. I’m exploring colour, light, atmosphere and emotion, and allowing the painting to develop through the process.

For me, the best oil paintings often begin when I stop trying to control the outcome.

The landscape gives me the starting point.
Play gives me the freedom to discover where it goes.
