I have always loved painting. My first love is watercolour, and it will always be, however acrylic painting has wooed me and I am enamoured with all it’s painting possibilities. Eleven years ago I was surprised to learn that I loved teaching almost as much and have taught many students in different countries around the world who caught the joy of painting. I have

taught children to adults, weekly classes, all day workshops, Teen and Children’s Art Camps, and recently Paint Night Parties for larger groups consisting of mainly beginning artists with little to no experience - so I have years of experience discovering what brand new artists need to know to succeed. I have recently created Painting Pathways, offering online painting courses to spark passion for painting in others with step-by-step training I wished I had when I started out. The first course, Watercolor for Beginners offers a step-by-step journey of starting in watercolor to get my students started out with the best foundation to continued growth. I offer personal feedback, group calls and the motivation my students need to grow in their painting journey. Is this kitten cuter than my painting? Of course not. It’s not supposed to be cute.

This started out as a diptych (2paintings).

I started out with lots of texture and an acrylic underpainting, then added oil stick and oil paint over top.

The texture is amazing and the color is smooth like butter.

There is so much movement in this painting. It’s hard to tell if it is reminiscent of water or rocks.

“Twilight”. 20”x16” gold leaf, acrylic and birchbark. Available for purchase.

I’ve included real birchbark in my paintings for the last 10 years as a way to identify with my place of home. Birchbark is symbolic of that sense of home that reaches back generations when my great great great grandfather settled on the Canadian Shield from Ireland. It’s in the blood.
