Movietown Ciné-club for March 2026
It’s only just over a week now until the Movietown Ciné-club for March 2026 and we still have spaces for the film on Saturday 21st March at 16h30.
Le Roman d'un tricheur (The confessions of a Cheat) is a French film directed by Sacha Guitry, released in 1936, adapted from Guitry's novel, Mémoires d'un tricheur (Memoirs of a Cheat).
Synopsis
Sitting on the terrace of a café, a man writes his memoirs: he recounts how his fate was sealed forever when, at the age of twelve, he was deprived of dinner for stealing from the cash register of his family's grocery shop to buy marbles. That same evening, his entire family died of poisoning after eating a dish of mushrooms. Alone in the world and having realised the futility of being honest, he thereafter had only one ambition: to become rich. Seeing his survival as a sign of destiny, he chose to achieve his goal by becoming a professional cheat and thief…………..
The film will be in French with English subtitles.
Please wrap up warm, bring a cushion and a blanket for your knees, the Chateau is a very old building and is often fresh even in the spring.
