Featured in the ARTE Documentary “Yemen: Crossroads of all Wars”

I am pleased to share my participation in ARTE’s documentary Yémen : Carrefour de toutes les guerres, directed by Miyuki Droz Aramaki and Sylvain Lepetit.

I contribute my voice as an artist to a film presented on ARTE, where I shared my perspective on Yemen, its complex political realities, and the human dimension of a conflict that continues to shape the region.

The Gates of Hell by Auguste Rodin.

I couldn’t help but think of The Gates of Paradise by Lorenzo Ghiberti, the famous doors of the Florence Baptistery. The original name is different, but Michelangelo is traditionally credited with giving them the name “Gates of Paradise” because he thought they were beautiful enough to serve as the gates of Paradise.

I am honored to have been invited to participate in the Art for Justice Conference and the launch of the Overseas Handbook in Istanbul on July 27, alongside an inspiring group of artists, experts, and advocates working at the intersection of art, memory, and justice.

I warmly encourage friends and colleagues in Istanbul to attend this important event and engage in what promises to be a rich and meaningful conversation.

My sincere thanks to ICTJ and the organizing team for their remarkable efforts in bringing this initiative to life and creating a space for dialogue, reflection, and exchange.

While I had hoped to join the conference in person, delays in obtaining a visa appointment from the Turkish Embassy in Paris prevented my travel. I am nevertheless pleased to participate online and look forward to contributing to the discussions remotely.

Wishing everyone a successful and inspiring conference.

مرّت أربعة عشر عامًا، على هذه الجدارية، ضمن حملة "لون جدار شارعك", في أيامها المبكره.

هكذا انتشر فن الشارع في المدن اليمنية، وتحول إلى ثورة ألوان.
جهود بدأت بشكل بسيطة ومتواضع، لكنها كانت ذات أثر إيجابي وكبير.

تحية لكل يمنيه ويمني كبار وصغار، الذين شاركوا بحب في الحملات الفنيه، و لأولئك الذين أبدعوا وساهموا بحملات فنية أخرى، و أثروا هذا المشهد الفني الجديد في اليمن. والذي لابد أن نرجع لنثريه أكثر يوما، وقريب بحول الله.

Fourteen years have passed since this mural, created as part of the “Color Your Street Wall” campaign in it's early days.

This is how street art spread across Yemeni cities, transforming into a revolution of color. The efforts started simply and modestly, but they had a significant and positive impact.

A salute to every Yemeni, young and old, who participated with love in these artistic campaigns, and to those who created and contributed to other artistic initiatives, enriching this emerging art scene in Yemen.
A scene we must return to and further develop one day soon, hopefully.

So it is with war:it becomes a memory of other wars..some already unfolding,others gathering on the horizon.كذلك هي الحر...
