Eight contemporary jewellers present their vision of tomorrow’s practices

"Contemporary jewellery" describes a relatively young practice, especially when compared to the longer history of jewellery. Still, this young field is incredibly diverse: it re-invents our connection to ornamentation and constantly rethinks what exactly defines “ornament”, or even a jeweller's activity. For its 20t

h summer exhibition, Cagnes-sur-Mer's city council, under the aegis of Louis N***e and Roland Constant, invites five contemporary jewelry designers and one contemporary jewelry collective to take over Espace Solidor and to share their vision of tomorrow's practices. A layered exhibition that gives a panoramic view of the doubts and desires that drive this thriving field, Exposé is also a professional development opportunity: for most of the eight participants, this was their first opportunity to conceive and organize an exhibition for a public space. Cagnes sur Mer's city council recognizes that the task of curating is often attributed, by choice or by default, to artists: Exposé provides the city with an opportunity to perpetuate its engagement with contemporary jewellery practices, in France and abroad.
