Bassins Des Lumières at Base Sous Marine 🫧✨

I came to Bordeaux to consume distressing amounts of cheese + wine 🍷🧀 I planned to roll myself to a gallery or two but hot DAMN I did not expect THIS !! I stumbled upon a ludicrously monumental immersive digital exhibition staged at a submarine base from World War Two !!!!!!! The CAVERNOUS submarine base has ridiculously dramatic architecture and four humongous basins that reflect the artworks as they’re displayed 💥🪞🥹

The base was built by the Germans in 1941 to house 15 submarines ~ during the 22 months it was operational the base housed 43 submarines all up !! 🤿 The bunker was abandoned in 1944 after heavy Allied bombing. The company that started Bassins Des Lumières spent two years installing 90 video projectors + 100km of optical fibres to create this absolute BEAST of an exhibition 🤯🔥

The current exhibit, Venise, La Sérénissime, invites you on a romantic romp through Venice, taking you through the work of Monet, Signac, Renoir and more 🌹💒❤️‍🔥 It was surreal and overwhelming, like a moody, artistic fever dream with opera booming all around the place and famous pieces melting into each other 🎙🫠🖤

IS THAT A GIANT SNAKE WRAPPED AROUND YOU OR ARE YOU JUST THE CURSED PRIEST OF APOLLO ????? today we are learning about LAOCOÖN 🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍🐍

Laocoön was the fella that TRIED to prevent the whole Trojan horse f**kery (ty Odysseus) 🐎 according to Virgil’s Aeneid, he warned the Trojans against accepting the gift from the Greeks, going so far as to spear the wily wooden thing. This was going on at the beach btw 🏖 bc that’s where the Greeks had left the malevolent horsey ⚠️ When two giant sea serpents popped out of the water and gobbled up the priest and his two sons the Trojans took that as a rather horrific sign that the gods were punishing him for running his MOUTH 🫦 so they dragged that sucker into the city walls tout SUITE 🏃‍♂️ and the rest is history ;((

THE PYRAMIDS OF GIZA ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

These BEAUTS were erected in what’s known as the 4th dynasty (c. 2575-c. 2465 BCE) and were built for three kings, Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure 👑 (I have a sudden urge to adopt 3 puppies name them after these gentlemen). How EXACTLY the pyramids were built is still ~ hotly ~ contested 🥵 (if you have a strong opinion please yell it at me in the comments) some combo of ramps and a H U G E amount of manual labour is the winning theory atm.

The literally COLOSSAL sculpture of the Great Sphinx of Giza liiiikely dates from the reign of King Khafre and therefore probably depicts his face 🥴 this absolute beast is 73 metres long and 20 metres high and was carved from a SINGLE. PIECE. OF LIMESTONE. Thanks to archaeological evidence of pigment residue, it was also probably painted ! (What’re the odds it was fabulously gaudy like Ancient Greek sculptures?) 🎨

the most fabulous assemblage of protective goddesses ❤️‍🔥🌈🐄😭

this colourful little statuette group was found in the tomb of Amenhotep II ~ the eclectic group of goddesses was charged with protecting him in the afterlife 💀 “Meretseger” is depicted as the winged cobra (!!) on the left, “Wadjet”is the cobra next to her, “Nekhbet” is that vivacious little vulture (I have such a soft spot for vultures & hyenas 😩🥺) and underneath them we have “Hathor” and “Mehet-Weret”, bovine beauties // goddesses of heaven 🐄💛

HOT OR NOT: ODYSSEY EDITION 🥵😤

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kfJQ8s_Rn1s&feature=youtu.be

Moan Inc. invited me onto her channel for a particularly smutty video, full of double entendres, disturbing visuals, piles of expletives that have now been muted to protect your tender ears, and opinions literally no one asked for.

❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 pls comment/share/screech and of course weigh in !!! I made some quite NSFW comments about man-eating giants that I’m quite curious to get your thoughts on.

Marquetry veneer sandals from the tomb of Tutankhamun 👡👡

The soles are decorated with images of bound captives, emphasising the pharaoh’s DOMINATION over his enemies 😤😤 so he’d trot around trampling on them just as EGYPT trampled on their ENEMIES.

Covered in dust, sweat and tears 😭 (I have a lot of FEELINGS about OLD THINGS) sitting on top of the Holy Mountain at Jebel Barkal with the remains of the Temple of Amun below 🏛❤️‍🔥

The temple was erected (🥴) when the Egyptians occupied this area of Nubia (1500 - 1060 BCE). It was constructed during the reign of Tutmoses III, restored by Ramses II and re-used by Kush*te pharaohs after the Egyptians tapped out (1060 BCE).

GLORIOUS mural paintings decorating the tomb of Tantamani at El-Kurru 💛💛

The Kush*te King Tantamani, also known as Tanutaman, ruled as a pharaoh over the ancient city of Napata and was a member of the twenty-fifth dynasty of Egypt.

Tantamani’s royal name was Bakare, meaning “Glorious is the Soul of Re,” Re being a creator god closely associated with ideology of Kingship.

The burial chamber of the king, who died in 653 BCE, employed typical elements of Egyptian funerary style, and was originally located underneath a Nubian pyramid, however only the entrance and chambers have survived.
