Bassins Des Lumières at Base Sous Marine 🫧✨
I came to Bordeaux to consume distressing amounts of cheese + wine 🍷🧀 I planned to roll myself to a gallery or two but hot DAMN I did not expect THIS !! I stumbled upon a ludicrously monumental immersive digital exhibition staged at a submarine base from World War Two !!!!!!! The CAVERNOUS submarine base has ridiculously dramatic architecture and four humongous basins that reflect the artworks as they’re displayed 💥🪞🥹
The base was built by the Germans in 1941 to house 15 submarines ~ during the 22 months it was operational the base housed 43 submarines all up !! 🤿 The bunker was abandoned in 1944 after heavy Allied bombing. The company that started Bassins Des Lumières spent two years installing 90 video projectors + 100km of optical fibres to create this absolute BEAST of an exhibition 🤯🔥
The current exhibit, Venise, La Sérénissime, invites you on a romantic romp through Venice, taking you through the work of Monet, Signac, Renoir and more 🌹💒❤️🔥 It was surreal and overwhelming, like a moody, artistic fever dream with opera booming all around the place and famous pieces melting into each other 🎙🫠🖤
