The humble windowsill is often a forgotten feature of a room.
In France, where windows generally open inwards, there is not always room to decorate the sill with plants or ornaments. That makes the material and craftsmanship even more important.
When I make a wooden windowsill, I don’t want it to look like a plain board fitted into a gap. I add a shaped solid-wood front edge that gives the sill more presence and showcases the timber’s natural grain and character.
It is a small detail, but it can turn an overlooked part of the room into a feature in its own right.
