Ayutthaya est la ville où je me suis sentie le plus comme une étrangère. Elle semble figée dans le temps, touristique mais à la fois authentique, écrasée par un soleil brulant et sans vent. Ses marchés sont les plus typiques que j’ai pu voir, rien n’est écrit en anglais et pas un farang (étranger) à l’horizon.

Cette ville chargée d’histoire était la deuxième capitale du royaume de Siam (après Sukhothai), et était un centre mondial de la diplomatie et du commerce. Aujourd’hui, il est encore possible de visiter plus de 375 temples en différents états de conservation.

We were walking around the small streets of the old Chiang Mai right when the sun was coming down when we heard music coming from a small coffee shop. Two random guys showed up to us and invited us to join their party claiming that they had free food and drinks for us and that music shoud always be shared. It was actually a group of friends from the sixties that all met in China and got to live all together in Thailand for several years that were now were reuniting for a few days after 20 years without seeing each other. We were crowded up in a small room near the garden, singing jazz, reggae and thai songs while wifes and kids were eating and playing outside. It is basically impossible to share the vibe of the moment un photography as there is a big part of the experience linked to the sounds and heat that night.

Travelling is also about that, meeting people with crazy life stories, sharing our cultures and enjoying moments together. Chiang Mai is a good place to do so as it is easy to meet people in bars and coffees and most of the activities are from a walkable distance.

Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, ou la première capitale du royaume de Siam.
Une ville peu étendue où l’agitation des grandes rues contraste avec les 500 temples figés dans le temps. Une ville aux Tuk-Tuk emblématiques que vous ne trouverez qu’ici. Une ville où l’on ressent la portée culturelle et historique de ce merveilleux royaume.
