Some places just get it. The Water Sports Center in Mantes-la-Jolie is one of them.
Where the rhythm of oars meets bold, sculpted architecture, light dances on the water, lines cut through the air, and suddenly the building isn’t just standing there… it’s competing.
The athletes push past in a blur of focus and raw effort, but the space holds the moment, capturing effort, focus, and that final burst of energy.
It’s not just a finish line, it’s a moment that stays with you.

An unusual architecture reconsidered through competition.

Pool Les Mureaux engages the Tournesol typology of late-70s/80s system born from France’s 1969 “1000 swimming pools” initiative and replicated nationwide.

Originally conceived as a repeatable public model, it becomes here a design question: how to reinterpret a standardized legacy while preserving its spatial and structural logic.
