🐢 Speaker Spotlight: Eleanor Tirtasana Chubb

🇬🇧 United Kingdom | Chelonian Conservation & Welfare

Many of you will already know Eleanor as Chair and Lead of the European Turtle Alliance, but how did ETA get to where it is today, and what is it trying to achieve?

Her Talk: ETA: What, Where, When and Why?

Eleanor will talk about the Alliance, its work and its aims for the future, drawing on her many years working across tortoise and turtle conservation, welfare and education.

Eleanor’s work includes:
🔹 Leading the European Turtle Alliance since 2016
🔹 Founding Tortoise Welfare UK in 2012, bringing together people from across the trade, rescue, veterinary and keeper communities
🔹 More than 20 years volunteering with the Norfolk Tortoise Club, including as Secretary and Coordinator
🔹 Lecturing internationally on chelonian welfare, medicine, husbandry and conservation
🔹 Running practical workshops on hibernation, habitat design and species identification
🔹 Working with vets, zoo professionals, businesses and private keepers to improve tortoise and turtle welfare

Eleanor has spent years bringing people together from different corners of the chelonian world, with the belief that sharing knowledge and working together are vital to making a difference.

As someone who has played such a big part in developing ETA and its conference, we’re looking forward to hearing her talk about what the Alliance does, why it matters and where it hopes to go next. 🐢

🐢 Speaker Spotlight: Dr Pierre Moisson

🇫🇷 France | Veterinarian, Primatologist & Director of A Cupulatta

We are delighted to welcome Dr Pierre Moisson to the European Turtle Alliance Conference 2026. After 15 years at Zoo de Mulhouse, first as a veterinarian and later as veterinarian and director, Pierre made an extraordinary professional transition and has spent the past 16 years leading A Cupulatta in Corsica.

🐢 A Cupulatta was founded in 1998 and, despite its beginnings under a primatologist, is now home to 130 species and more than 3,000 tortoises and freshwater turtles, making it the largest centre in Europe dedicated to the public display of chelonians.

Pierre will introduce us to this remarkable centre and share insights from its extensive collection, including breeding successes with species of particular conservation interest and the collaborations A Cupulatta has established with research institutions.

🌍 Pierre’s experience includes:
🔹 15 years at Zoo de Mulhouse as a veterinarian and later director
🔹 16 years leading A Cupulatta in Corsica
🔹 Overseeing a collection of 130 chelonian species and more than 3,000 individuals
🔹 Developing breeding programmes for species of particular conservation interest
🔹 Collaborating with research institutions to further our understanding of chelonians
🔹 Working towards the conservation of endangered tortoise and freshwater turtle species

🏡 Pierre will also share his priorities for the future of endangered species conservation, offering a fascinating insight into how a large specialist centre can combine public education, captive breeding, research and conservation.

From primates to more than 3,000 shelled residents, Pierre’s career has certainly taken an unusual turn! 🐢🇫🇷
