Norðlysið

1945 scooner rigged wooden sailship. Showing the Faroe Islands from the sea. "Norðlýsið" means "The Northern Light" in Faroese.

The Norðlýsið is dedicated to affording you some unique experiences of the Faroe Islands. The ship is the second ship, built at the Tórshavn Shipyard and is now the oldest remaining ship of Faroese origin. The Norðlýsið was a fishing vessel from 1945 until 1984 when it was taken over and restored by the Faroese artist Tróndur Patursson. The ship was rigged as a schooner sail ship and went into the tourist industry. In 2020 the ship has been restored once more and updated with modern guest facilities, a new engine and new sails.
