Sigavou Studios ART FROM THE PLACE WHERE EACH NEW DAY BEGINS
Sigavou Studios is a small, family-run enterprise built

Sought after by clients from around the world, Maria’s art is a dynamic fusion of vibrant, contemporary colours and forms, laden with references to Fiji’s unique culture, colourful reefs, and tropical wildlife. Maria refers to her growing body of work as her “Love Song to Fiji”. Collaborating with a team of emerging local artists, Maria works primarily in dyes on silk, and acrylics on masi, also k

nown as barkcloth. Sigavou Studios has pioneered new ways of honoring Fiji’s beautiful barkcloth traditions, celebrating an ancient symbol of cultural identity while creating cutting-edge visual art that provides a splash of colour in tune with many a 21st century interior design. All barkcloth we paint on is handcrafted by Maria’s extended family, living in a seaside village on the remote island of Vatulele. There is something for everyone in the Sigavou showroom – from small, limited edition paintings that fit easily into a backpack, to large feature pieces that find their way into upmarket corporate offices and vast resort lobbies. Hand-painted greeting cards and other creative gifts compliment the Sigavou range. We welcome walk-ins from 9am-5pm on weekdays and visits by appointment on weekends. The canvases have been cut and the paint bottles filled: We are ready and waiting for a creative afternoon with our Sip & Paint guests this coming Saturday, May 30th! Our studio team recently had some fun trying out the "Back to Front" painting technique that we will be introducing during this session. It's one of those satisfying art processes where chaos turns to harmony over a few magic moments, leaving you with a wow-factor art piece to show off to friends and family! And you don't have to be a pro to get eye-catching results... Click through to see our trial pieces and our poster with all the event details - and register by Thurs May 28th using this link: https://forms.gle/npcxeydxfyGJbA8Q6

Available directly from Sigavou Studios for the very first time: a new range of premium-quality ART PRINTS! It's been an exciting project, bringing some of our much-loved originals to life again in the form of colourful art prints created here in our studio using durable inks on specialised paper - fit to last a lifetime! This post features prints of "Viti II", originally painted in dyes and resist on white silk, several years back. The actual painting is in a private collection overseas, but you can now purchase your very own "Viti II" print for a fraction of the cost! Each print comes sealed in a convenient postage tube, with a signed certificate of authenticity included: a great way to bring a piece of our Fiji-inspired art into your home! Feel free to DM us for further details, or drop us an email: [email protected].

It's been a week full of drama at Sigavou Studios, as Tropical Cyclone Vaianu roared around us for 24 hours on Tuesday, battering Fiji with gale-force winds and torrential rains. When we were finally able to get through the flooded roads to our studio on Wednesday, these photos show what we found... Luckily our shipping containers and little art gallery were still above the flood water, so while a huge clean-up is now underway, we did not lose any valuable equipment, and all our colourful paintings are still looking beautiful! In fact, while our team was busy inspecting the damage, there was a surprise visit from Australian tourists who had heard about Sigavou and were determined to find us, even if it meant wading along a dirt road through knee deep water, guided by a friendly family from the neighbourhood who generously paused their post-cyclone yard clearing to show them the way! Closing an art sale in the midst of this crisis was certainly fresh wind in our sagging sails - and we are sure that our overseas visitors will remember their art-collecting adventure for years to come!

What a privilege it was to transform VOU’s Fijian Flying Circus 40ft shipping container with our trademark vivid colours. The actual circus tent travels in this container and our artists have had an incredible time painting this work of art. Vinaka vakalevu VOU for this opportunity and best wishes 🙌

We’ve had many memorable art projects come our way over the years, but this one was a first… The assignment: Transform an old shipping container into a home-on-the-go for VOU’s Fijian Flying Circus - soon to set sail on a multi-country overseas tour!
Over the past week, Team Sigavou has been on a roll, discussing, sketching, outlining and painting - with blazing sun, torrential afternoon rains, and soggy mud adding to the challenge. It’s been heaps of fun seeing all the ideas take shape in our trademark vivid colours! Here are a few progress shots of our artists in action. Photos of our completed murals to be posted shortly…
