Art & Intercultural dialogue

Tampere Intercultural Art is a community of artists, culture professionals and enthusiasts formed in 2020. Our goal is to bring out the work of aspiring international artists, promote intercultural dialogue and diversity through art practices. We also advocate for the promotion of inclusion and equality of foreign-born artists in the field of art and culture in Finland.

6/9 TIcAS members in the same photo, what a special treat!🍬

This rare occasion happened in the general cooperative meeting, where we said thank you and goodbye to financial year 2025, the former board ("the old ones"🧙‍♂️) bowed out and we selected a new board for 2026!

MAP - Paper Doll Workshop

The MAP workshop, which premiered at the Tampere city event Window Walkabout, celebrates diverse identities and intercultural coexistence. Considering the pieces of their own identity and the experience of belonging, participants get to create their own paper doll characters and place them on a miniature landscape - forming a delightful community art piece. Hosted by art educators Miia Säppi & Zeynep Kaynar.

Open Call for visual artists based in Finland!📣

The open call is linked to a research project funded by the European Union that explores the experiences of young people who sought asylum in Finland under the age of 18 without a parent or guardian. Specifically, it focuses on their experiences of becoming adults. Young asylum-seekers in the project have participated in poetry workshops where they have developed a series of poems about their experiences in Finland✏️

We are now looking for artists working with the themes of belonging, displacement, sense of home to reinterpret these poems in their own medium. Four artists will be selected, each creating a total of five artworks based on five different poetry pieces. The fee is 1250 EUR per artist (+possible VAT). Artworks will need to be completed within two months from the start date.

All poems created by project participants and artworks by artists will be later featured in a book summarising the results of the project📒

Applications are especially encouraged from foreign-born artists based in Finland.

🗓️Application period: 14.1-11.2.2026.

The final selection of participating artists will be announced by 25.2.2026, with the expectation that artists will commence their work from late February – artwork will be due in late April.
