This June we were in residency at in Pori, Finland making a new version of Bunker Cabaret in the old market’s former bingo hall. Hop!Fest is a street arts festival bringing international companies to Pori’s streets / iconic spaces. There was something liberating about being part of a festival in which everything happened outside of the theatre, even though it is hosted and produced by a great one - whose theatre space instead became a home of meeting, dancing and feasting for artists and audiences. It was wonderful to make new friends, watch the city spring into life at midsummer and to feel the power of art in public space.

Bunker Cabaret was performed at Hop!Fest on 25, 26, 27 June 2025, produced by Rakastajat-teatteri. This brilliant festival is the first street arts festival in Finland, taking over the streets and unique buildings of the city of Pori. We developed the production in a residency in the former Bingo Hall of the disused Market Hall, an iconic space in which we installed our bunker / bus station. Huge thanks to the Pori audiences and to the festival organisers who generously donated the ticket sales to support Ukraine's defence. Photos by Jaakko Viljanen

We're excited to be bringing Bunker Cabaret to Finland this June, as part of Pori's HOP!Fest with Rakastajat-teatteri

Kiovan pommisuojissa syntynyt Bunker Cabaret osaksi HOP!festin ohjelmistoa! Ukrainalaisista, saksalaisista ja brittiläisistä taiteilijoista koostuvan itsenäisen teatteriryhmän Hooligan Art Communityn teos Bunker Cabaret yhdistelee musiikkia, runoutta, tanssia ja videotaidetta. Uniikki teatteriteos on voimakas tutkimusmatka teemaan rakkaus vs. totalitarismi, tarkastellen myös taiteen tekemisen konflikteja sodan aikaan yksilöllisellä tasolla.

Bunker Cabaret sovitetaan joka kerta uuteen esityspaikkaan. HOP!festillä nähdään ainutlaatuinen versio Porin Kauppahallissa entisen bingohallin tiloissa kolmen esityksen verran. Esitykseen myydään hyväntekeväisyyslippuja, joiden tuotto ohjataan Ukrainan hyväksi.
