Welcome to join the last in the row of sound art & music "Rainbow Orchestra" workshops at Hyvän mielen talo, Kauppurienkatu 23, Oulu, on Thursday, 23.7 at 16.30!

Artists OSMO HAKOSALO & Lölä Vlasenko are gently guiding participants in exploring & creating sounds which together form a rainbow, the symbol of Pride & its values: equality, freedom, love & mental well-being.

We also create a community sound installation at Oulu Pride ry on 8.8.

No previous experience in art is required. We welcome people of all ages & backgrounds.

Grateful to Veeran Verstas & Päivi Kortessalo for adding some amazing instruments to our sound experiment process.

"Rainbow Orchestra" is a series of sound art workshops produced by TaideTurvapaikka with Osmo Hakosalo and Cafe Konstantiina as a part of - a project of Hyvän mielen talo and part of the official Oulu2026 - European Capital of Culture 2026 programme.

Happy happy everyone!

And Happy !

It was established by the United Nations to honour the courage and resilience of refugees.

Every minute 20 people have to leave all behind to escape war conflicts and persecution, according to the UN, and by mid 2025 there were 117,3 million people across the globe forcibly displaced – at least one in every 67 people (given only official numbers with the reality being more dramatic). Low- and middle-income countries host the most of the world’s refugees – 71%.

Despair, however, cannot land on the grounds nourished by community art as well as by empathy and solidarity it cultivates.

Welcome to enjoy glimpses of TaideTurvapaikka Midsummer Festival vol iii – a party which gathered tens and tens of wonderful Oulu-based refugees and asylum seekers and amazing artists: Oksana Honcharuk, Hanieh Hadizadeh and Hamed Jalili of Nova ensemble, Minna Kangasmaa and Keijo Laitala of Art Hub Pikisaari, Dahlia Klemm; Ola Odedeyi of Zestii Oulu, Jussi Moilanen, Oktay Turk and Deniz Turk of the Harman Band.

Endless warm thanks to:
Industrial Strength Coffee Coffee for the best coffee in town and systemic support;
Veeran Verstas for snacks, juice and love;
Turk for inspiration, snacks and warmth;
Liia and Yana for brilliant volunteer performance;
for a big bag of balls and a croquet.

Summer has finally got out of its spring cocoon here in the North, spreading its wings, flying around, kissing awakening flowers in the sun that is here to stay for next couple of months.

What a beautiful spring it was!
Pictured in this photogallery are glimpses of our latest workshop – ”Let’s Play”, focusing on design and installation and guided by our dear friends, artists Johanna Riepula and Magnus Lange of Proto - Pohjois-Suomen muotoilijat ry.

Together with tens and tens of participants from around the globe we’ve been creating safe spaces shaped by favourite memories and cherished dreams.

The harder the reality gets, the more vivid and daring becomes the imagination – when supported by community art making.

An exhibition including artworks made by refugees and asylum seekers is expected to take place this summer on in the heart of .

”Democracy is not about Winning, it is about Participation”
Sound artist Antye Greie-Ripatti aka AGF – on political listening, sonic memory and the borderlessness of sound.

Sound artist & composer Antye Greie-Ripatti has held a listening session in the refugee reception centre in Oulu last International Women’s Day, followed by another session – about spine and listening – in Oulu Art Museum Oulun taidemuseo within her listening sessions focusing on sound memories, sonic dreams and travelling in between them.

This year – on the International Women’s Day on the 8th of March, 2026, – TaideTurvapaikka is returning to the refugee reception centre with Antye and welcoming female artists to join the party.

In an interview with TaideTurvapaikka Antye Greie-Ripatti talks about rewards & challenges of listening, agency, equality & peace.
