”Democracy is not about Winning, it is about Participation”
Sound artist Antye Greie-Ripatti aka AGF – on political listening, sonic memory and the borderlessness of sound.

Sound artist & composer Antye Greie-Ripatti has held a listening session in the refugee reception centre in Oulu last International Women’s Day, followed by another session – about spine and listening – in Oulu Art Museum Oulun taidemuseo within her listening sessions focusing on sound memories, sonic dreams and travelling in between them.

This year – on the International Women’s Day on the 8th of March, 2026, – TaideTurvapaikka is returning to the refugee reception centre with Antye and welcoming female artists to join the party.

In an interview with TaideTurvapaikka Antye Greie-Ripatti talks about rewards & challenges of listening, agency, equality & peace.

is happy to be sharing glimpses of media art workshop held by visual artist Christelle Mas last Friday in the Refugee reception centre of Oulu. That Friday 13th was indeed full of magic, celebrating the power of imagination & intuition.

We were translating emotions & feelings into visuals and digitalising images through simple smartphone tools. We also played some music and had a lot of fun.

Hey ya, December!

Autumn has been most rewarding for TaideTurvapaikka in terms of beautiful encounters and wonderful news.

While continuing to hold art & cultural well-being workshops & events in the Refugee reception centre here in , we were busy writing, planning beautiful artistic plots for next year – the year of Oulu as the European Capital of Culture – and applying for support. And we got it!

TaideTurvapaikka is happy and proud to have received kind support from Oulu2026 - European Capital of Culture 2026, in several contexts.

First of all, we will be co-creating art pieces with refugees & artists to be installed in city locations, creating portals/emotional bridges between the city and the refugee reception centre, between focuses of pain and hearths of healing & hope, through sound, movement & visual & environmental art. We will also be building a website to share the journey (it has been our big dream for a long long while!)

Second of all, TaideTurvapaikka network artists – Ola Odedeyi, Olga Prokhorova, Hamed Jalili & Hanieh Hadizadeh of Nova Ensemble & Lölä Vlasenko – will hold several art workshops in Oulun taidemuseo Oulu Art Museum within Monikulttuurikalenteri – the Calendar of Many Cultures – a series of creative workshops by amazing international artists, all organised in a joint force of love with dear Parasta Lapsille ry and Oulu Arts Museum.

And TaideTurvapaikka is very very happy to be a part of Oulu-2026 project of the dear Cheerful House – Hyvän mielen talo – Voice the Taboo – celebrating the courage, resilience and talent of mental health journey fellow travellers & creative resistance to stigma.

Sharing here a glimpse of our recent workshop in the Oulu refugee reception centre in Heikinharju – jamming on one special during the Kantele Meditation by Osmo Hakosalo.

Welcome to stay tuned for more info about our upcoming 14.12 Winter Art Fest event in the Refugee reception centre, we're still plotting details, but we know it's going to be awesome.
