"I understand that the road to art is challenging, constantly changing and endless." Pirkko Salovaara (Born in Pori, 1958) is a Finnish artist who has travelled her way through Helsinki to Naantali – where she has lived by the sea for the past 30 years of her life.
“Colours, papers and pens have been involved strongly in my growth since early childhood. My experimental and unconventional nature h
as been a great help, as well as a challenge, in finding my distinctive way of working. Spacious seashores with a direct horizon from Pori are like silent outlines inside me, which bring about the dedicated shades and alignment to my painted lines. These same elements give momentum to my larger abstract works.”
After many years and several very different art courses and teachings of excellent professional artists, I understand that the road to art is challenging, constantly changing and endless. I have been actively partaking in exhibitions since 2014, holding numerous private exhibitions as well as joint exhibitions. Most of them have been in the area of Southwest Finland. I have also undertaken several commissions. On references: Artist of the year 2016 of Turun Sunnuntaimaalarit. I am a member of the Finnish Watercolour Society, and of Turun Sunnuntaimaalarit, where I currently sit on the exhibition committee. I am also a board member of the Board of Directors of the Support Association of the Naantali Art Museum and the Naantali Cultural House Association. I organised the summer exhibitions at Kesti-Maaria in Naantali in 2017-2021.
