Egg tempera on canvas
In private collection
This piece was commissioned and it took me three years to make it. The inspiration picture that the client showed me was taken in Italy of an old fragmented fresco, so I had the idea of making it in egg tempera which I've never done before and it was scary to even start 😅 I even enrolled in an art course that tought it.
When I finally got started, I practised with just getting to know the medium better, splashing it around the canvas and I loved the way it layered and changed. I've never painted abstact before, but this seemed to be the perfect medium to do it in. Mixing in charcoal, ink and copper pigment, which is what you see giving a lovely shimmer to the painting.
I added multiple places for hanging at the back, so the client can hang the painting in different orientation if wanted. It has multiple layers of meaning that differ with the orientation. Maybe you see a waterfall, a rain cloud, a lake, a forest, a swamp etc.
I will definitely continue my experimentation with egg tempera, as soon as my mother gets her summer chickens again 🐔🐓
