Róza El-Hassan frequently exhibits her ceramic works, and we have made space for some of them in Kohta's studio gallery. These include ‘Two Heads with Teardrops ’ (2025) and other recent works imagining collective identity and agency by joining several faces, stripped down to the simplest visual signs like almond-shaped openings for eyes or semi-circular smiley mouth lines, into entities with shared consciousness. The titles can be ‘Collective Dream’, ‘Collective Perception’ or even ‘Collective Sin’.

1. Collective Dream with Blue Heads, 2025–26. Glazed ceramics, 25 × 25 × 10 cm
2. Two Heads with Teardrops, 2025. Ceramics, glazed ceramics: first head ca 21 × 17 × 9 cm; second head ca 17 × 15 × 10 cm. Private collection, Budapest
3. Collective Dream with Yellow, 2026. Glazed ceramics, 22 × 28 × 9 cm

Róza El-Hassan:
The non-violent revolution is feasible

’Kind’ is term of praise that El-Hassan uses generously, but not gratuitously. Whenever she uses it I stop (at last mentally) to consider the true meaning of kindness and the possibility it represents. Can it be revolutionary? In the modern sense of ’thoroughly transformative’ but minus the revolutionary violence? This, and tenderness and their goal-oriented application, is, as far as I’m concerned, what El-Hassan’s newest larger-scale sculptural assemblages are about. The polychrome wooden sculptures For Non-Violence (2025) and Healing (For Non-Violence 2) (2026), with their partially covering coats of blood-red oil paint, are also visual methaphors of motherhood, of the acts of holding and nursing that literally embody the ’radical care’ of fashionable curitorial parlance.

1: Hommage, 2016, Wood and oil paint, 100 x 46cm; coloured plastic stripes

2: Healing (For Non-Violence 2), 2026, woood and oil paint, 168 x 56 x 70cm

3: For Non-Violence, 2025, wood and tempera, 165 x 32 x 32cm

recommends Róza El-Hassan exhibition in :

"The sculptures and paintings of Hungarian-Syrian artist Róza El-Hassan depict grassroots revolutions. The works of this artist, who represented Hungary at the Venice Biennale in the 1990s, reference the power of the collective and historical events, such as a news photo of Yasser Arafat donating blood in Gaza for the victims of the September 11 attacks."
