Today at Glad Time, we want to remember and honor Vuokko 🤍
Vuokko was a designer whose work was not just about aesthetics—it was about thought, functionality, and humanity. Her designs carried far and made it possible for a small family business on the other side of the world to build something lasting.
In 1986, Ritva Glad traveled from Canada to Finland to the Vateva fair to select Vuokko’s new collection. The most meaningful part of the trip was not only the collection—but the meeting itself. Vuokko invited Ritva to her home, where a large pot of food brought people together around the same table. It was a simple but meaningful moment—not a buyer and a designer, but people who shared respect for work and for each other.
Vuokko’s design—timeless, functional, and bold—made much of the work possible that Ritva built in Thunder Bay: a business that connected cultures, people, and design.
That story continues today across generations.
Glad Time is still here. Jenni Glad Timmons leads the business, Ritva continues as an important design advisor, and Emmi Glad Timmons brings her own artistic work through design and the atelier.
Emmi works as an artist as part of Glad Time. Her work comes from experience—from a world where challenges, being misunderstood, and unequal starting points are a reality. She does not speak Finnish, just as her grandmother did not speak English when she moved to Canada in 1984.
Emmi’s art—large abstract works—is built from emotion, space, and movement.
Glad Time supports her work: we manage the distribution of her pieces, marketing, exhibitions, and communication so that her art can connect with people around the world.
With every painting or print sold, a birthday art card is included. In addition, for every five art cards sold, birthday cards are created for people with special needs around the world.
For us, this is not just work.
This is continuity—
a chain of generations built on hard work, risks, courage, resilience, and design.

Tänään me Glad Timella haluamme muistaa ja kunnioittaa Vuokkoa 🤍.
Vuokko oli suunnittelija, jonka työ ei ollut vain estetiikkaa—se oli ajattelua, toimivuutta ja ihmisyyttä. Hänen designinsa kantoi pitkälle ja mahdollisti sen, että pieni perheyritys toisella puolella maailmaa pystyi rakentamaan jotain kestävää.
Vuonna 1986 Ritva Glad matkusti Kanadasta Suomeen Vateva-messuille valitsemaan Vuokon uutta mallistoa. Matkan merkityksellisin hetki ei ollut vain mallisto—vaan kohtaaminen. Vuokko kutsui Ritvan kotiinsa, jossa suuri pata ruokaa toi ihmiset saman pöydän ääreen. Se oli yksinkertainen, m***a merkityksellinen hetki—ei ostaja ja suunnittelija, vaan ihmisiä, jotka jakoivat arvostuksen työhön ja toisiinsa.
Vuokon suunnittelu—ajaton, funktionaalinen ja rohkea—teki paljon siitä työstä mahdolliseksi, jota Ritva rakensi Thunder Bayssa: liikkeen, joka yhdisti kulttuureja, ihmisiä ja designia.
Tämä tarina jatkuu tänään sukupolvien yli.
Glad Time on edelleen. Jenni Glad Timmons johtaa toimintaa, Ritva toimii edelleen tärkeänä design-neuvonantajana, ja Emmi Glad Timmons tuo mukaan oman taiteellisen työnsä designin ja ateljeen kautta.
Emmi työskentelee taiteilijana osana Glad Timea. Hänen työnsä syntyy kokemuksesta—maailmasta, jossa haasteet, väärinymmärretyksi tuleminen ja eriarvoiset lähtökohdat ovat todellisuutta. Hän ei puhu suomea, kuten hänen mummonsa ei puhunut englantia muuttaessaan Kanadaan v. 1984.

Glad Time toimii hänen työnsä tukena: huolehdimme teosten jakelusta, markkinoinnista, näyttelyistä ja viestinnästä, jotta hänen taiteensa voi kohdata ihmisiä ympäri maailmaa.
Jokaisesta myydystä maalauksesta tai vedoksesta lähetetään mukaan syntymäpäivätaidekortti. Lisäksi jokaisesta viidestä myydystä taidekortista tehdään syntymäpäiväkortteja ihmisille, joilla on erityistarpeita ympäri maailmaa.
Meille tämä ei ole vain työtä.
Tämä on jatkumo—�sukupolvien ketju kovaa työtä, riskejä, rohkeutta, sitkeyttä ja designia.
