MiklagardArts

MiklagardArts a facilitator of artistic interventions and curator of transnational and transcultural collaborations In Old Norse, Miklagård means “the great city”.

MiklagårdArts holds the strong belief that cultural diversity is an unequivocal asset on the road to cultural wisdom of Helsinki. We make all our work decisions through a value-lens; we materialize the values we live by through our projects. During the 10th century Vikings set eyes on Istanbul for the very first time and named the largest city they knew of “Miklagård”. It quickly became ‘the’ plac

e to go for the Scandinavians of the time, similar to how most perceive New York nowadays. In response to the cultural dimension of the past, MiklagårdArts seeks to use the new paths to change the cultural mindset and influence creative ideas. Our Vision

To be a unique platform for promoting artistic exchange between the Nordic countries and dynamic art scenes in South East, Middle East and the Far East. Our Mission

To connect art scenes up to now unfamiliar to each other for initiating transnational artistic collaborations. Our Values

Creating possibilities - We are curious and open-minded. We want to trigger creative minds and souls for innovative multi-genre collaborations. New forms - Along with human being, the culture has developed and matured. We want to achieve an accurate understanding of the world; through new ways of collaboration. Inclusiveness - We want to serve for a better society by cultivating understanding and forgiveness through arts in our everyday lives. What we offer

We like to cater to the needs of the artists, collectives, and also want to create possibilities for innovative multi-genre collaborations between creative minds otherwise would not have access to encounter. Our approach

- Tailor-made intercultural collaborations
- Curating portfolio projects
- Consultancy
- Mentoring

We are honored and thrilled to continue our collaboration with the 香港中樂團 Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra for the opening of their 49th Orchestral Season ✨

Oud virtuoso, Giannis Koutis, will join the orchestra for "Silken Notes of the P**a".

Inspired by the Silk Road, the programme celebrates the cultural journeys of plucked string instruments played in the “cradled” position. Across seven movements, the suite highlights the expressive voices of the five- and four-string p**a of China, the satsuma-biwa and shakuhachi of Japan, and the oud of Turkiye, weaving together a vibrant musical tapestry that echoes centuries of exchange and storytelling along the Silk Road.

📅 12–13 September 2025
📍 Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall
🕗 8 PM

This will be a truly unique musical encounter, and we couldn’t be prouder to see Giannis on stage with such distinguished musicians under the direction of Maestro Yan Huichang.

Yes, it's that time of the calendar again! We're excited to continue our collaboration and team up with a community of expert organisations and passionate individuals committed to driving change and promoting diversity, social justice, and transformation in their work.

2025 is an intercultural and anti-racist platform organised in collaboration with several arts and intercultural organisations. The platform strives to spark discourse around diversity, inclusivity, power structures, otherness, and intersectionally feminist strategies. The event is aimed at individual artists, cultural influencers, and institutions within the arts and culture sector, but anyone interested in these topics is warmly welcome.

Anti-racism, non-discrimination, and radical transformation take a village, a substantial amount of knowledge, and a multitude of perspectives. That’s why we’re here — together.

📣 We’re thrilled to announce that our artistic partner, Erik Söderblom, has been given the honour of creating a spectacular artistic program for 𝟏𝟒𝟎𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐤𝐚 𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐬ä𝐥𝐥𝐬𝐤𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐭 (𝐒𝐋𝐒), the Society of Swedish Literature in Finland)!

The esteemed Swedish historian and author 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐝 will deliver the evening’s festive speech.

Culture is a collective effort of meaning-making that belongs to the people—not to politicians!

We stand in solidarity with artists and cultural workers in Finland, urging everyone to say NO to these cuts and protect our cultural future.

The drastic budget cuts proposed by the Finnish Government pose a serious threat to our fundamental rights to culture and well-being. We are deeply concerned about the impacts these reductions will have on society’s mental health, the exodus of creative talent, and the years of education and commitment invested by those in the arts.

We are proud to be part of Finland’s arts ecosystem and to support a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive society.

Please, read, sign, and share the petition.💪💪💪
