Outdoor season started last week in Vantaa — and with that, the summer season is officially underway.

This summer is shaping up to be a busy one:
festivals until end of August, a few arena shows in between, and some corporate events along the way.

Every outdoor show brings its own technical challenges. This one, right in the middle of a city square, meant dealing with reflective surfaces, surrounding buildings and changing conditions between afternoon tuning and showtime.

That’s also one of the things I enjoy in system engineering — adapting the system to the environment instead of relying on a “one setup fits all” approach.

And with d&b audiotechnik and (Temperature Humidity Control), it’s possible to react to changing temperature and humidity conditions during the show and keep the system behaving consistently even when the environment changes significantly between daytime tuning / sound check and evening showtime.

A good start to what looks like an intense but exciting summer ahead.

Grateful again for the trust from Creative Technology Finland and happy to continue another season working with d&b audiotechnik systems.

A few days off in Spain before the festival season kicks off.

After a busy spring with arena shows and tight schedules, taking time to reset is just as important as the work itself.

A bit of sun, some warmth, and stepping away from the noise for a moment — simple things, but they make a real difference.

Now recharged and ready for what looks like a busy summer of festivals (and a few arena shows along the way).

Miten äänentoistojärjestelmän optimointi oikeasti tapahtuu käytännössä?

Tässä workshopissa voit seurata koko prosessin alusta loppuun ilman omaa tietokonetta tai mittauksia. Kaikki vaiheet esitetään selkeästi suurilta screeneiltä, jotta voit keskittyä ymmärtämään itse prosessia.

Päivän aikana keskitytään siihen, miten nykyaikaisia PA-järjestelmiä optimoidaan todellisissa käyttöympäristöissä.
Keskiössä ovat akustiset mittaukset ja niiden käyttö päätöksenteossa: – yksittäisten komponenttien verifioinnista – aina koko järjestelmän optimointiin asti

Käytössä on täysimittainen PA-järjestelmä, ja kaikki vaiheet demonstroidaan reaaliajassa.

Two shows. Two very different venues. One goal.

This weekend with Haloo Helsinki! took us from an ice hall in Kuopio to a large multi-purpose arena in Oulu. Completely different starting points in terms of venue and acoustics.

The work started already before arriving on site — building the system design in d&b audiotechnik ArrayCalc based on 3D models of the venues. Once on site, it’s about verifying, measuring and optimizing the system using Rational Acoustics LLC Smaart, making sure it behaves exactly as planned.

Different rooms. Same target.

The goal is simple:
Give the audience — and the FOH engineer — a consistent experience, regardless of the venue.

When it works, it should feel the same everywhere.

That’s what system engineering on tour is about.

Two intense and very rewarding days in Tallinn working on the d&b audiotechnik CCL demo.

Always great to work in a room full of professionals. Sales people, rental company owners, system designers… and at the same time a good reminder that experience and specialization still matter. Different perspectives, different strengths.

The system was exactly what I expected — solid, predictable, and performing the way we are used to with the latest SL-Series. What stood out to me in particular was the new CCL-SUB: impressive output and a very solid, musical low end.

Also really impressed by the new U-series (U3, U5, U7). Tonally very consistent across the range, but still delivering serious output from compact point source boxes.

The upcoming active versions of the U-series are particularly interesting — with the option to be powered by AC, PoE++ over Cat 6 Ethernet or both for dual power. That’s something genuinely new from d&b, and especially for installation projects, it opens up completely new possibilities.

Even while working the whole time, these kinds of days are also about learning. And I still stand by this:

When the day comes when I don’t learn anything new, I’m ready to retire.

Already looking forward to the next sessions.

Getting ready for an upcoming tour as a System Engineer.

Starting next week I’ll be working on the Haloo Helsinki! tour, covering six arenas ranging from 3,000 to 13,000 seats.

Some of the venues are familiar from previous productions, but there are also a couple of new ones for me. Since I had the time, I visited those arenas in advance and carried out measurements using the application.

The measurement data was then exported into , allowing me to build accurate venue models before arriving on site. In practice, this means less guesswork and a more controlled starting point for system design.

On this tour we’ll be using a d&b audiotechnik SL-Series system. As always with line arrays, the accuracy of the venue model directly affects the end result — the better the data, the more predictable the system behavior.

For me, this kind of preparation is a key part of system engineering:
knowing and understanding the space before the first box is even flown.

Last week I spent three intensive training days at L-Acoustics HQ in Marcoussis and completed the following workshops:

• Drive System
• M1-P1 Measurement & Tuning
• Touring Project Workshop

Thank you to the L-Acoustics education team for three focused and well-structured days.

Even after decades in live production, I believe continuous learning is part of the job. Systems evolve. Workflows evolve. Expectations evolve.

For me, professional growth means understanding different platforms deeply — not replacing one with another, but expanding the toolbox. The better I understand system architecture, measurement workflows and touring project planning, the better I can serve productions and crews in real-world conditions.

Looking forward to applying this knowledge in upcoming touring and live projects.

In Marcoussis this week for three training sessions at
L-Acoustics HQ.

Even after decades in live production, there’s always something new to learn — especially when it comes to system design software, workflow optimization, and understanding how the tools shape the final result.

Investing time in sharpening the technical side of the craft is never wasted.
