Summer Break 🤍

A warm thank you to everyone who has participated in KOOLA Art Space’s activities this spring—and a special thanks to all the artists who have trusted us to showcase their work!

Our exhibitions and other activities will be on summer break from June 1 to July 31, 2026.

We look forward to seeing you all again in August!

OPEN CALL to group Exhibition at Koola Window

BLUE(S)

Color, mood, melancholy, depth. Diverse interpretations are encouraged, and artists are encouraged to interpret the theme freely.

We accept both wall-mounted works and pieces designed for surface/pedestal display. This exhibition is open to artists of all backgrounds. Artists are welcome to apply with works that are either completed or still in progress.

Exhibition dates: 26.9.2026 – 15.10.2026
Open call: 15.5.2026-16.6.2026 (Please note that we may make decisions earlier, so we encourage you to submit your proposals promptly. All applicants will be informed of the decisions no later than 30.3.2026.)

You can submit 1-3 artworks for consideration. Submission is free.

If your work is selected for the exhibition, fees are based on artwork size:
Small works (up to 30cm x 30cm): 40e per work
Medium works (up to 40cm x 40cm): 50e per work
Large works (larger than 40cm x 40 cm up to maximum of 80cm x 80cm): €90 per work

Meet the artists of 'Light'

Helmi Uusitalo

Helmi Uusitalo (b. 1993) is a designer and artist based in Helsinki who works primarily with photography and sculpture. Her creative process involves an experimental and intuitive approach combined with a great discipline.

The themes of her works focus on exploring the relationship between nature and time, as well as humanity’s constant need to control nature. They speculate on visions and forms of nature’s future while revealing its human characteristics, that one might even feel a sense of identification with.

Meet the artists of 'Light'

Maiju Putkonen

Maiju Putkonen (b. 1997) is a Finnish painter and visual artist based in Helsinki. She works with traditional and digital painting mediums as well as ceramics. In springtime, plein air painting is a big part of her practice.

Originally from Oulu, her work is influenced by her search for nature and stillness in her new surroundings. She wants to create colourful and emotional scenes that invite the audience to see into her internal world.

Meet the artists of 'Light'

Diana Katsivalis

At age 7, found several colorful scraps of fabric in the trash of a bikini factory near home, and began running away from home to collect the scraps to make clothes for the dolls.

At 32, graduated in Industrial Design and, to pay for college, worked as an intern in some art galleries in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Later, especially after becoming an immigrant, tried to put her creativity aside several times and focus on something more tangible, but the creativity never left her alone.

Meet the artists of 'Light'

Riika Vesakoivu

Riika Vesakoivu (b. 1994) is a visual artist and art educator (MA) based in Helsinki. She primarily works with watercolours and other painting and drawing techniques, exploring themes such as the repetitive nature of everyday life and the boundary between memory and imagination. She is interested in discovering something mysterious and magical in details and scenes that at first glance appear ordinary.
