Noora Ahonen: Hajoamisesta

"Pyöräilin kotiin Saimaan rantapolkua syyskuun sateisessa ja tuulisessa iltahämärässä. Nopealla vilkaisulla huomasin jonkin lepattavan puunrungon ympärillä rannan lähellä. Päätin palata paikalle myöhemmin. Seuraavana päivänä löysin puun ympärille kietoutuneen kankaan. Samaan kerään oli punoutunut muovisia sauvoja ja kuminauhaa. Kankaaseen oli tarttunut kauniita ruskean ja vihreän sävyjä sen huuhtouduttua rantavedessä. Tarkemman tutkiskelun myötä selvisi, että kyseessä oli jossain päin Saimaata tarpeettomaksi jäänyt tai tuulen mukana lentänyt lasten teltta. Keräsin kankaan talteen tulevaa käyttöä varten. Jossain vaiheessa tietäisin mitä siitä tulee.
Näyttely koostuu esineistä, jotka ovat hajoamisen eri pisteissä. Ne on kerätty kaupungissa ja luonnossa liikkuessa. Osan näyttelyn materiaaleista kerään kaduilta Yö gallerian läheltä ja työstän galleriatilassa näyttelyn aikana. Tutkin esineiden erilaisia pintoja katsellen ja tunnustellen. Lisään niihin jälkeni hiilellä piirtäen, kaivertamalla ja ompelemalla.
Kaiken kohtalo on lyhyen kukoistuksen jälkeen hajota. Niin meidän kuin kaiken mihin koskemme. Sään ja kasvien arvoilla murenneesta ja haalistuneesta rakenteesta halutaan yleensä eroon ja korvata rikkinäinen uudella. Teoksia tehdessä yritin lähestyä rapistuvaa pintaa hajoamisen ehdoilla. Osa esineistä on pitkälle ja näkyvästi työstettyjä. Osa taas on jätetty lähes koskemattomiksi. Tekemäni jäljet tunnistaa hiilen mustan- ja harmaansävyisistä vedoista.
Kirjoitin tehdessä syntyviä ajatuksia muistilapuille. Laput ovat esillä teosten yhteydessä."

Noora Ahonen: On Decomposition
I was cycling home on a path by lake Saimaa. In the rainy and windy september dusk I saw something wrapped around a tree trunk. Glancing at this object fluttering in the wind I decided to come back later. The following day I returned to find a piece of fabric, some plastic sticks and white rubber band entangled into a bundle. The fabric had collected subtle shades of green and brown from algae and soil by the shore. Upon closer examination, it became clear that I was holding a tent for kids. It had been discarded as useless somewhere around lake Saimaa or flown away with wind. I collected the fabric and took it away with me. At some point, I would know what would become of it.
The exhibition consists of items at different stages of disintegration. I’ve collected them whilst moving from one place to another in nature and rural areas. Some of the materials I will gather up in the vicinity of Yö Galleria and work on in the gallery space during the exhibition. When working with the items I first inspect the surface by looking closely and touching. I add my mark on them by drawing with coal, engraving and sewing.
It is the destiny of all that exists to decompose after a short while of blossoming. Both us and everything we touch. In the midst of life we often want to forget and get rid of degrading structures and replace them with new. When approaching the materials I tried to work with the decaying surface rather than against it. Some of the items have been long and visibly worked on whilst others are left almost untouched. You can trace the marks I made with black and gray shades of coal.
Whilst working I wrote arising thoughts down on papernotes. These notes are shown with the works.
