🪻 Bio - Statement

Zara Asgher (b.1987) is a visual artist and educator from Lahore, Pakistan, currently living and practicing in Finland.

Asgher\s practice investigates the power dynamics governing gendered behavior and social interaction through the immediate, fluid act of drawing in public spaces. This on-site mapping functions as a direct investigative tool to capture the behavioral patterns and repetitive rhythms that structure the human body's gendered movements and societal norms.

Worked from these documentations then serves as the foundational blueprints for drawings and paintings. Within the studio, these raw spatial insights allow conceptualization of the human body as a series of layered surfaces where internal and external realities disconnect.

“Chair-ing is Caring” - The Art of Connection: Reclaimed Design & Empowerment Workshop.

Good design does more than solve a physical need it offers a path toward self-confidence, rehabilitation, and community integration.

Drawing direct inspiration from Curro Claret’s award-winning project with Barcelona’s Arrels Foundation, this workshop centers around a simple, versatile metal bracket designed to serve as an "open point of departure." Using this central connector alongside discarded, reclaimed, or upcycled materials, participants will explore how simple structural elements can yield endless creative forms—from basic seating to coat racks and lighting.

What You'll Experience
The Blueprint: An introduction to social design principles, low-tech modular joining, and upcycling mechanics.

The Build: Guided fabrication where you assemble your own piece of functional art using supplied structural nodes and found objects.

The Connection: Collaborative problem-solving in an inclusive environment that welcomes all skill levels and backgrounds.

Bring Your Found Materials

We encourage participants to bring discarded items to work with whether that’s broken skateboards, leftover cabinet wood, or parts of old chairs. If you don't have materials of your own, don't worry: we will have a stock of reclaimed materials available at the studio for everyone to use. 

Whether you are looking to learn basic assembly, explore sustainable design practices, or participate in a creative community initiative, this workshop offers a space to build both objects and self.

Our next Collaborator Member is Pegah Shamloo - Pegah.

She is an artist and designer based in Helsinki. Trained in Industrial Design, she brings an object-oriented perspective and a deep interest in daily rituals to her practice. Her work explores the emotional relationships between humans and objects. Investigating object semantics and semiotics, and the point at which an object transcends function to carry symbolic meaning.

In her applied practice, she focuses on bringing intention back into the everyday: designing and making objects that invite joy into the most mundane rituals, guided by the belief that finding joy in the small, repeated moments of life is how one finds joy in life itself.

NON-ESSENTIAL, an art toy exhibition by ATOM TOYS

The Concept

We live in a world that constantly reminds us what is important: work, productivity, efficiency, growth — the things that keep life moving.

This exhibition is about something else. The things we often place to the side the hobbies, collections, toys, art, imagination, and play. The things we are told are non-essential.

Perhaps you will discover something that reminds you of yourself. And perhaps by the end, you may find yourself questioning whether these things were ever non-essential at all.

Art. Play. Music. Connection. Non-essential, perhaps. Human, undoubtedly.

Artists

Mainu Yinoot is a Paraguayan-born visual artist and sculptor based in Helsinki, creating playful characters across digital and physical mediums that invite connection while raising awareness of endangered species and overlooked realities.

Martín Acuña is a Paraguayan sound artist based in Helsinki who builds immersive soundscapes through synthesis, hardware, and experimentation, transforming listening into an experience of atmosphere and emotion.

"Second Movement: To Burn The Bridges"

Is the name of the last exhibition or our resident artist Felipe Vasconez, in Kalasataman Vapaa Kaupunki gallery at REDI Mall.

For this second movement, TO BURN THE BRIDGES, conceived not as a sequel, but as a progression, the artist presents a pictorial selection addressing the causes of diasporas and exiles, reflecting on the idea of return while avoiding generalizations. Through this, the artworks seek deep conversations about the radical idea of severing ties with one's place of origin, considering that throughout life we always leave something behind whether gaining independence from our parents, moving to the next block, or relocating to the other side of the planet. This flow of lives is as ancient as the oceans. Yer, this journey is not merely geographical; in some cases, it is profoundly marked by far more complex causes: silent wars, drug trafficking, guerrilla conflict, the climate crisis, extractivism, and the shadow of corruption that forces exile. It is here that memory becomes baggage, used to reconstruct a sense of belonging in an almost unknown territory, while the return itself remains uncertain.

Felipe Vásconez (b. 1995, Ecuador) is a visual artist based in Helsinki, working with drawing, painting, and various printmaking techniques. Felipe's work depicts an imaginative drift that blurs the distinction between everyday life, emotions, and method. Much of his inspiration comes from literature, which has charged his work with metaphors, irony, and sarcasm. Felipe always carries a notebook and drawing tools, as most of his ideas are born through drawing. Migration has inspired scenarios that evoke the overarching themes of nostalgia, ego, loneliness, and memory. Drawing is for him a daily ritual: "My drawings are a kind of introspective research executed in different drawing media, a recurring attempt to portray my inner world."

He has undertaken art studies at the University of the Arts and ITAE in Ecuador.

Recent exhibitions include his participation at "Rural Art Market" by Pubblica_lab IT, Albeit in Auslagen AT, (Solo exhibition) at Myymälä2, Finland.

Are you a lens-based visual artist?

We want to see your work!

Starting this autumn "Conversations on Practice" is a peer critique group for artists working with photography, moving images, documentaries, experimental film, video, and other lens-based practices.

Across five sessions, we'll come together to share work, discuss projects and artistic processes, and exchange thoughtful feedback in a supportive group setting.

Open to artists at all stages of their careers. Presenting your work is optional, but everyone is encouraged to actively participate in the conversations.

The sessions are produced and coordinated by Lorena Articardi and Elias Jiménez at Yvapurü Studios.

Here we are to introduce you to our new Collaborator Member... Nigel Goh
Nigel is a Singapore born multidisciplinary artist based in Helsinki and the co-founder of Atom Toys Atom Toys | Art Toys . His work is guided by a single idea of the void and the small joys that fill it.

Each character carries a symbolic void within its body, representing the emotional spaces that appear in everyday life. Inside that void sits a small joy, a gentle reminder to appreciate the small wins and quiet comforts we often overlook.

Nigel works across both digital and physical mediums to translate this concept into characters that feel personal and reflective. His approach is inspired by the quiet joy found in Finnish culture, where stillness, small moments, and subtle details hold meaning.

Through Atom Toys, he continues to develop a world that encourages people to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and fill their own voids with the small joys that make life feel lighter and more human.
