The Finnish Painters Project has come to its end!

We sincerely thank you for your interest in the Finnish Painters project. We’ve had inspiring collaborations, insightful conversations, and shared reflections on the evolving concept of Finnish contemporary painting. This has been a valuable journey, and we have learned a lot together.

The Finnish Painters project wrapped up its three-year pilot phase at the end of 2024! This journey has laid a strong foundation, and we are buzzing with enthusiasm as we look ahead to 2025, where the project will continue.

As a key first step, the Board of the Finnish Painters' Union—the association behind our work—has appointed a new steering group to guide the project's future direction. This group includes Siiri Haarla, Chairperson of the Board of the Finnish Painters' Union and Visual Artist (MFA); Sampo Apajalahti, Chairperson of the Exhibition Committee and Visual Artist (BFA); and two external experts: Hanna Johansson, an art historian and contemporary art researcher (PhD), and Mikaela Lostedt, an art historian, curator and director (MA); ensuring a diverse and informed approach to the project's objectives.

Here’s the first artist introduction of 2025, kicking off the year with energy and excitement! Mikko Paakkonen is an abstract painter whose work blends asemic writing, expressive mark-making, and the bold energy of abstract expressionism. Inspired by the traces and chaos of urban environments, his pieces pulse with life, inviting viewers to decode the layers of meaning within dynamic, ever-evolving forms.

The year 2024 is quickly coming to an end, but we still have some great artists to present before 2025 begins! Ama Gallery is presenting an exhibition by Elsa Salonen.

Elsa Salonen's solo exhibition 'To My Alchemical Garden, Welcome' at Ama Gallery, Helsinki, explores flowers and plants from a broad cultural, scientific and esoteric perspective; it brings together alchemy, Finnish nature worship, still-life paintings, botanical collections, medicinal plants, herbal spells, plant intelligence and spagyrics. The works reflect on the power of all plants to connect this reality to other metaphysical levels.

Go and check it out! The exhibition is open until January 5th, 2025.
