In the Collection of Tate, offered by The Contemporary Art Society in 1958

Bacon painted a series of eight paintings based on Van Gogh's self portrait The painter on the way to Tarascon, dated 1888. Unfortunately the original work of Van Gogh was believed to be destroyed during the bombing of Dresden in 1945.
Bacon only saw the reproduction in colour.

My unexplained obsession with Francis Bacon - Day 1

Maybe at the end of this series, you can tell me why I am so obsessed with Francis Bacon (1909 - 1992).

Photos of the current exhibition Paris until 30th May.

(I went there again tonight, looking through the windows for a long time. The street was very quiet. I don't know if they keep the light on in the gallery for the whole night but how wonderful it is that you can stare at three Bacon masterpieces in the middle of night or at sunrise or at sunset.)
