INTRODUCING THE ARTIST // KIM SIMONSSON

”Veistoksen mallina on käytetty maalauksen jääräpäistä, vihaista nuorta suomalaista mieshahmoa. Betonista valettu hahmo seisoo keskellä kuohuvaa koskea ja katsoo kohti padon suuta vesimassan vyöryessä hänen ylitseen, siirtymättä paikaltaan. Hän on jähmettynyt omaan ajatteluunsa ja omaan aikaansa. Ajan myötä virtaava vesi kuluttaa veistoksen pintaa vähitellen, kunnes hahmo lopulta kuluu pois. Teos on saanut inspiraationsa Kullervon kirous -maalauksesta.”

Kim Simonssonin teos ”Kullervon kirous” on osa Kaste-näyttelyä.

Are you interested in learning how to create something from natural, organic materials? Inspired by dew, art, and water, we will needle-felt our own brooches using wool and recycled jewellery. No prior experience is required to learn this technique.

Sarah Råholm (1988) uses natural pigments and organic materials in her work. For her, this is a way of making a statement about sustainable development and the responsible use of resources.

”The same ancient water circulates through all living things, having arrived on our planet from space. Synkro reflects on the idea of equality in our society. How is it possible that one thing is considered more valuable than another?
Initially, glass bowls filled to the brim create a uniform horizon. More water evaporates from the open bowl, but the water level in the narrow-mouthed bowl drops faster. Does the colour of the glass affect the rate of evaporation?”

”The video presents a series of holiday cabins and waterfront saunas of my design. The challenge is to build in accordance with our architectural tradition while refining the genius loci and responding to the distinctive qualities of the landscape. The traces of the Ice Age, the trees, and even the paths of the ants are left undisturbed—an approach that reflects the challenges and responsibilities of architecture today.”

Georg Grotenfelt’s video work is a part of the Dew Exhibition.

“With this artwork, I aim to express the different phases of snow and water through porcelain and a mirror. I sought to convey a sense of airiness, sensitivity, and transience. The shadows and reflections created by the lighting are an integral part of the work.

Working with clay is an ongoing learning process. It involves mistakes, new realizations, and an inspiring pursuit of new goals. The rhythm of the hand-rolled porcelain bead composition creates a sense of movement.

In our hectic world, people need opportunities to pause, reflect, and relax.”
