Today, we join the Ethiopian and global music community in mourning the passing of Addis Gessesseโa visionary music manager, producer, and cultural ambassador whose influence transformed generations of artists and reshaped the industry.
For decades, Addis worked tirelessly behind the scenes, connecting Ethiopian music with the world. He played a pivotal role in launching the international career of Gigi, served as the longtime manager and strategic force behind Teddy Afro, co-founded the groundbreaking Jano Band, and spent years managing and collaborating with members of the Marley family, including Ziggy Marley and Stephen Marley. His work also extended to international legends such as Earth, Wind & Fire.
He was the driving force behind historic cultural events, including the 2005 "Africa Unite" celebration in Addis Ababa, which brought together hundreds of thousands of people and positioned Ethiopia at the heart of a global celebration of music and unity.
More than a manager, Addis Gessesse was a mentor, a bridge between cultures, and a believer in the limitless potential of African talent. He showed Ethiopian artists that their music could resonate far beyond borders and inspired countless creatives to dream bigger.
His legacy will continue to live through every stage he helped build, every artist he empowered, and every life he touched.
On behalf of Kese Events, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, artists, and fans around the world. May he rest in peace, and may his extraordinary contributions to music and culture never be forgotten.
Rest in Power, Addis Gessesse. Your vision will echo for generations. ๐๏ธ
