Wenchi Lake is a beautiful volcanic crater lake .it is home to natural forests, hot springs, and waterfalls, as well as a traditional village. there are two roads to get to Wenchi from Addis Ababa, Via Weliso and Via Ambo. Wenchi lake is located 155 km from Addis Ababa. 38 Km from Woliso or 28 KM from Ambo Total distance is similar either way.
With less than 50 volcanic lakes in the world, about 5 of them are located in Ethiopia. Lake Wenchi is located 2600 meters above sea level,There are two islands in the lake. On one of the islands there is an ancient church called Cherkos monastery. One can reach the islands and the monastery by ferry. Due to its unique topography, Wanchi is blessed with varieties of animal and plant species. there is no good environment or food to support fish in it, the water is very clean and free from any odor of water. In fact, it is the second cleanest lake in Africa. After lake Tanganyika.At the 24th General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) in Madrid, Spain, Lake Wenchi in Ethiopia was named the Best Tourist Village of 2021.
