After 29 years as a matador, Maripaz Vega Jiménez will be celebrating today her final bullfight at La Malagueta in Málaga, Spain —the very same bullfight featured in Ella Es El Matador (She Is the Matador), the documentary film that Celeste Carrasco and I directed and produced in 2009.
I have admired Maripaz throughout the 10 years it took us to make the film, and I continue to admire her to this day. It has been an extraordinary privilege to witness her strength, passion, dedication, and journey.
Maripaz, I wish you all the very best on your final corrida and a beautiful new chapter filled with joy, love, and wonderful moments. My very best to you and your beautiful family. ❤️

Después de 29 años como matadora, Maripaz Vega Jiménez celebrará hoy su última corrida en La Malagueta, en Málaga, España—la misma corrida que aparece en Ella Es El Matador, el documental que Celeste Carrasco y yo dirigimos y produjimos en 2009.
He admirado a Maripaz durante los 10 años que nos tomó realizar la película, y sigo admirándola hasta el día de hoy. Ha sido un privilegio extraordinario ser testigo de su fuerza, pasión, dedicación y trayectoria.
