We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Dawn Ritch on Tuesday, 14th April 2026, following a short illness. Dawn was a cherished friend, an inspiring leader, and a much-loved figure within the barbershop community.
A co-founder of Pilarmonics Ladies Chorus and former President of BIBA, Dawn dedicated over 30 years of her life to barbershop singing. Her journey began in 1995 with Tyneside Ladies Chorus, where her passion for harmony first flourished. An accomplished quartet singer, she performed in numerous ensembles over the years, sharing her talent, energy, and joy with all who had the privilege to sing alongside her.
Following an early retirement from a successful career in banking, Dawn moved to Spain with her beloved husband, Malcolm. Determined to continue her musical journey, she found her home with Spangles Ladies’ Harmony Chorus in 2014, quickly becoming an integral part of their success, including a gold medal win the following year.
In 2016, Dawn co-founded Pilarmonics Ladies Chorus, guiding them to gold medal victories in 2017 and 2019. Her leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment were instrumental in shaping the chorus into the vibrant and successful group it is today. In 2019, she was elected President of BIBA (then SABS), an honour she held with immense pride and dedication.
After the challenges of the global pandemic, and time spent away from her children in England, Dawn made the difficult decision to return home to be closer to her family. There, she continued to share her love of music, singing once again with Tyneside Ladies Chorus, her original quartet Moonglow, and a smaller a ca****la group, as well as LUX A Capella, and even competed in Denver with them in 2025.
Three years ago, Dawn co-founded the international chorus Sparkle & Shine alongside Marina Mew. What began as a small group quickly grew into a thriving, vibrant chorus, united by Dawn’s vision and passion. At the 2026 BIBA En Armonía Convention, despite being unable to direct due to illness, the chorus delivered a heartfelt performance in her honour under Marina’s direction, achieving a bronze medal. It was a moment filled with love, admiration, and deep respect—for Dawn.
Tragically, Dawn passed away just days later.
Dawn’s legacy within the barbershop world is profound and enduring. She inspired countless singers, built lasting friendships across countries, and brought people together through her love of music. She gave so much of herself to others, and her kindness, warmth, and generosity will never be forgotten.
She leaves behind her devoted husband Malcolm, her daughter Heather, her son Jamie, and a wide circle of friends and fellow singers who will miss her dearly.
Dawn was loved by everyone who knew her—but perhaps the most special thing of all was that her heart was as beautiful as her voice.
Rest in peace, Dawn. Until we meet again. 💔🧡🖤
