On March 26th we have the enormous honor of being able to invite one of the world's most prestigious Egyptologists, Professor 𝐴𝑙𝑒𝑥𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑟𝑒 𝐴. 𝐿𝑜𝑘𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑜𝑣 from the University of Cambridge, who will give us a seminar entitled: 𝐹𝑜𝑟 𝑒𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑙𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔: 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑙𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑎𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑙𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝐸𝑔𝑦𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑛 𝑐𝑜𝑓𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑠.
-How many functions does an ancient Egyptian coffin have? While in our own society it is tempting to associate coffins overwhelmingly with death and burial, this talk – based on the forthcoming book Coffins in Context – will illustrate that to the Egyptians the reality was rather different: as well as a resurrection machine for the afterlife, a coffin was also an investable asset and a source of wealth – something so valuable that it could be litigated over in court.
The seminar will be given in English on March 26, at 18.00 in the Sala de Baluarte, Museo del Mar Santa Pola and is a collaboration between the Museo del Mar Santa Pola and Arboleto & Friends.
