Creativity doesn’t only live in art schools and studios.

Hi, I’m Yanina, and I’m taking over the Space for Art Instagram account this month.

A few weeks ago I went on a five-day walk along the Camino de Santiago. In my backpack, between clothes, books and a water bottle, I carried a few sheets of cyanotype paper.

Along the way I picked up whatever caught my eye: a fern by the path, a strand of seaweed, a handful of fallen leaves. I laid them on the paper and let the sun do the rest.

Now I have a frame filled with blue postcards of my journey. Little traces of the path. Shapes I held in my hands. Light from those exact days.

It isn’t difficult. All you need is your attention, and something to record the moment with. A pencil, a small notebook, a needle and thread. Whatever fits in your pocket.

So here is my invitation to you: next time you go somewhere, a long journey or just a walk around the block, take one creative tool with you. Notice what catches your eye, and keep a little piece of it

Dear friends, Genia (Genia Valla) here! This is my last post for now, as in October I’m passing the mic to Yanina (Yanina Shevchenko | Visual Artist). 💫

When we first started the Peer Mentoring sessions at Space for Art, I was thrilled—even though back then, I didn’t even consider myself an artist. But very quickly, I realized my concept of what it means to be an “artist” was completely wrong, and that these peer mentoring sessions were one of the best things that could have happened to me at the time.

It’s such an amazing, nurturing group gathering. A space where each of us can share our ideas, sketches, and work in progress, receiving feedback, brainstorming, and support to keep moving forward with our projects—all the way to point B: our annual group exhibition.

It has been 5 years of this experience, and I feel I’ve grown so much as a creative during this time.

This collaborative group offers bi-monthly feedback and inspiration sessions through March, switching to weekly prep in April 2027 to get your work ready for a featured community exhibition in May 2027. If you work in visual, conceptual, or physical media and want to grow alongside fellow creators, this is for you!

MORNING COFFEE TALK with Camilla Strong LIVING INSIDE ART: Stories, Symbols and Forgotten Artisans of the Spikey Mansion

We’re opening our new season with something special: a talk by Camilla Strong inside a rare find - a residential Catalan Art Nouveau mansion with much of its original art still intact. Unoccupied and hidden from the world for 30 years, its doors are now open, offering a rare opportunity to discover a remarkable piece of local history and artistry in the heart of Sant Pere de Ribes.

Through a talk that unfolds as we move through the house, Camilla will share what it means to live among a century of painted friezes, hydraulic tiles and half-forgotten iconography. Together, we’ll explore the stories and symbols woven into its interiors—and discover what the house’s anonymous artisans still have to tell us, if we know how to look.

If you’re curious about the art, architecture and hidden stories of our town, this is an invitation to step inside and look a little closer.

Hello Genia Valla still here.

I want to share something with you. We all know that most days, life feels like running on autopilot. We move from one task to the next, stuck in our heads, planning a future that hasn’t even happened yet.

For a long time, I used to think that “doing art” meant setting aside hours, sitting in a studio, and creating something tangible. But over the years in Space for Art, I’ve learned that creativity isn’t about producing a masterpiece—it’s simply a way of coming back to yourself.

You don’t need fancy materials or extra time in your day. You just need a tiny shift in perspective.

What about trying something? 🌱💫

Wherever you are right now—making coffee, sitting at your desk, or walking down the street—just stop for one minute.

Look around and find three different textures. The rough bark of a tree, the cold surface of a mug, the soft fabric of your sweater.
If you can, touch them. If not, just really look at them. Don’t judge them as pretty or ugly. Just notice them.
That’s it.

When you allow your senses to take over for just sixty seconds, your mind quiets down. You step out of the rush and right back into your body. And honestly? That tiny space of presence is where all real creativity begins.

Hello Space for Art family! Genia here (Genia Valla) ✨

As many of you know, closing our physical studio space was a major turning point, but it also planted the seeds for something new. Over the last 7 years in our shared space, I witnessed firsthand how deeply transformative art, creativity, and presence can be for young people.

That’s why I’m so excited to share a personal project that my team and I have been pouring our hearts into: Explorarte - laboratorio de creatividad y arte is officially beginning its journey! 🌿🎨

Explorarte is an independent educational initiative created specifically for teens and young people who are homeschooled, in flexible learning environments, or simply need an alternative to traditional secondary school. It’s a safe, nurturing refuge where highly sensitive youth can express themselves without judgment and find authentic tools to navigate life.

By combining creative practices with Body Awareness (ATB), we help young people reconnect with their bodies, listen to their inner compass, and build true self-confidence.

✨ Connection with Space for Art:
While Explorarte is a separate project, it carries the spirit of our community. I’m so grateful that several wonderful artists from Space for Art will be joining us throughout the program to facilitate special guest workshops! Having their creative energy involved is a huge gift.

Dear friends! Genia (Genia Valla) here—I’m taking over the Space for Art Instagram account this month.
As many of you know, we closed our physical studio back in June. For me personally, it was one of the hardest moments of the past few months. Together with our community and friends, we honored that transition and let it go in a beautiful voice circle.
The studio doors may be closed, but we are still right here, continuing our work with full enthusiasm: making art and spreading creative energy throughout our community.
We have exciting news and projects to share for this new 2026–2027 season, which we will be revealing in our upcoming posts.

Last public event within the walls of our beautiful studio.

A final gathering of our community to honor everything we have created together, to share gratitude, and to offer wishes for the next chapter. A closing that felt deeply needed.

We shared stories, danced, laughed, cried, reflected, and created together.

Thank you to everyone who came and offered your presence and support once again. We feel deeply valued and loved, and we will carry this energy with us as Space for Art steps into its next chapter. ❤️

For 7 years, our studio has been more than just a physical space.

It has been a home for creativity, experimentation, connection, and community. A place where art was created freely, where people gathered for workshops, concerts, exhibitions, conversations, music, and shared experiences. A place where supportive friendships and collaborations were born.

Over the years, we truly believe this space became something meaningful not only for us, but for many people in our town, a place to come for inspiration, expression, support, and belonging.

Now, after 7 years, we have to let go of this studio space this June. The owners have decided to put the local on sale.

We feel that this is the beginning of a new chapter for Space for Art, and we want to continue building and growing this project within our community.
