Why should the Assassin class join Diablo Immortal next year?
To clarify, despite some assassins in Diablo's lore being part of the establishment of the Demon Hunter class, they are both different and have different game kits and lore, as the Assassin relies on blades (knives, daggers, and shurikens), poison, and shadow manipulation (stealth and attacks from the shadows) more than the Demon Hunter, whose iconic weapon of choice is the crossbow and their traps.
The Assassin is a legacy class and deserves to be next to the Druid and the rest, followed by the Witch Doctor in the following years.
While we have variations like the Crusader and the Wizard, the Viz-Jaq'taar's trained class will add different dynamics and more lore. Hopefully, Xiansai is a region for slaying wizards and warlocks next to demon spawns in their free time who transgress the laws.
Also, it will be a continuation and really lore-extending and exploring to add the Assassin after the warlock as a natural opponent to the Vizjerei Clan and some of the rogue wizards/sorcerers.
So, Blizzard! Please! Do it!

Officially, the Viz-Jaq'taar (Assassins) and the Demon Hunters coexist as completely separate organizations with different missions.
The Assassins did not disband or fully merge into the Demon Hunters. While the Demon Hunters adopted the Assassins' shadow techniques, traps, and mind-training via mentors like Natalya, the two orders still serve distinct roles in Sanctuary.
Here is the breakdown of why the mage-slayers still exist and how they split their duties.
1. The Viz-Jaq'taar Still Hunt Rogue Mages
The Assassins are not "all about demons now." Their primary directive remains exactly what it was during the Mage Clan Wars: policing humanity's sorcerers to prevent another catastrophic abuse of magic.
The Assassin Philosophy:
They believe that human arrogance and reckless magic users (like the Vizjerei or the Zann Esu) are the root cause of demonic invasions. To stop demons, you must stop the mages who summon them.
Current Status:
The Viz-Jaq'taar still operate from secret sanctuaries in the Kehjistan desert. They continue to monitor magic academies, execute corrupt magi, and hunt down renegade warlocks in the shadows.
2. The Demon Hunters Focus Exclusively on the Hells
The Demon Hunters are a newer, decentralized coalition born directly from the ashes of the catastrophic destruction of Mount Arreat. They do not care about political wizard policing; their focus is pure extermination of the Burning Hells.
The Demon Hunter Philosophy: They do not care if a demon was summoned by a rogue human mage or if it simply crawled out of a hellmouth. Their only goal is the total eradication of every demon on Sanctuary.
The Distinction: An Assassin will spend months tracking a corrupt human politician practicing forbidden blood magic. A Demon Hunter will ignore the politician and hunt the demon horde, burning down a borderlands village.
3. Why the Confusion?

The lines blur because the Demon Hunters desperately needed a way to survive the demonic corruption they fought.
To combat hellspawn without losing their minds to madness, the early Demon Hunters actively sought out the training methods of the Viz-Jaq'taar. They adopted the Assassins' inner discipline, mental conditioning, and use of "Shadow Magic." Because iconic figures like Natalya helped train this new generation, the Demon Hunters became the tactical heirs to the Assassins' martial legacy, even though their official targets differ.
