A multitude of Mirabilis jalpa and Lantana and Campsis radicans blooms a.k.a. Marvel-of-Peru, Spanish flag and Chinese trumpet vine blossoms
All of these species are incredibly resistant, even invasive, yet their blooms are so fragile and transient. The blooms tend to change color depending on the teperature, the surronding or other external factors.
Mirabilis jalpa, also known as Marvel-of-Peru or Four o-clock plant has numerous medicinal properties, although poisonous. It opens blooms after 4 o’clock pm or at night and the blossoms are very tender and fade almost immediately.
It is pollinated by the Sphinx moth of other nocturnal pollinators.
It dies back in winter and comes back double in size the next year. It is almost impossible to irradicate. The root is a massive tuber, which is known the crack house foundations in search of light.
It is a symbol of hope
Lantana has numerous medicinal properties and attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.
The blooms change color with age, temperature or sun exposure varying from yellow-white to deep orange and fucsia within the same plant. Extremely drought tolerant and resilient. Ince established it can bloom from freezing to scorching temperatures without water.
It is a symbol of longevity.
Campsis radicans or trumpet vine is a vigorous and invasive plant, which is native to China. It attracts hummingbirds and butterflies and the strong branches can provide home and food for a pletora of insects.
It symbolizes resilience and growth.
