What a trip! With my friend, Rob Powers… got to meet and chat with the incredible producer, director, writer, Mark Rydell.
The Reivers, with Steve McQueen; The Rose, with Bette Midler; On Golden Pond, with Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn, for which he received an Oscar nomination as Best Director.

What a delightful charming man!

In response to a post on a theatre history site re the original production of Gypsy:

“This production changed my life.

Although I had been acting since I was 14 years old, I never considered pursuing a theatre career. I was a language major in college when I saw this show.

I was stunned. I sat in the theatre, practically immobile, as the audience filed out after the final bows.
I thought, “I would be thrilled to be a curtain puller if I could be a part of something like this!”

I changed my major to theatre arts the next day. It was a fortuitous decision. I have made a living as an actor for more than fifty years, including many musicals.

Thank you Ethel Merman, Jack Klugman, and everyone involved in the original Gypsy production.”
