When We Are Married
On a day when heavy rain and thunderous murmurings could easily have cast a shadow over the start of our new season, 14 brave souls grappled with the complexities of Priestley’s tortured Yorkshire dialect, consequently enhancing its comedic elements. Never before has Cleckleywyke heard itself so blatantly abused; never before has the part of Lottie been played so convincingly by a 90-year old American with his vocal knickers in a twist!
The challenge was more than met. All who wanted to read a part could do so and seized the opportunity with gusto. We read the whole play in its not inconsiderable entirety, with occasional breaks for refreshment, and in so doing thoroughly enjoyed a most entertaining evening.
