May I highly recommend a lively and enjoyable theatre experience at The Indalo player’s production of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel .
It is a radiant example of how imagination, and inspired choices can bring a beloved story vibrantly to life.
With its inventive staging, richly authentic costumes, and pitch-perfect casting, this rendition invites audiences on a joyful, poignant journey without ever leaving their seats.
From the moment the lights came up, the set design made a strong impression. Ingeniously crafted, the stage was divided into distinct spaces—a charming if dilapidated hotel , an office , a lively bar and a busy call centre All seamlessly integrated yet clearly defined thanks to the lighting skills and creative engineering.
The costumes were nothing short of splendid. Bright, textured fabrics in saffron, teal, and deep ruby evoked the vibrancy of Jaipur and lent the production a rich visual authenticity. Each outfit reflecting both the character’s personality and their journey—from the dowdy travel clothes of the newly arrived British retirees to the shimmering silks of India .
Authentic Sound effects and beautifully clad and exotic dancers enhanced the Indian experience .
But it was the casting that truly elevated the production. Every performer, from leads to supporting roles, felt perfectly matched to their character. There was real emotional chemistry among the ensemble..
The actor portraying Sonny, the ever-hopeful hotel manager, and mummy’s boy ,brought the right blend of chaotic energy and heartfelt optimism, the guests each captured their characters with nuance and warmth.
The performances never felt like caricatures; instead, they brimmed with sincerity and empathy.
Showing how their lives are enriched and expanded by the Indian experience .
Allow yourself to be transported to the magical Marigold Hotel , and you will not be disappointed .
