Cómo llegar

Soy Carmen, artista visual, y mi obra nace de mis propios momentos de silencio, de mi necesidad de entenderme a mí misma a través de la pintura.

A través de la figura en estados de introspección o soledad, doy forma a emociones que invitan a quien las observa a mirar hacia adentro.

Mi pequeña obra “Perfil en verde” continúa su recorrido con “The Harmony of Vision” junto a otras obras en formato 20 x 20 cm de otros 119 artistas de 29 países.
Después de Taiwán, la gira llega a Hong Kong, en Illuminati Fine Art Gallery, dentro de un proyecto impulsado por Galería Artelibre que propone un encuentro entre artistas de distintos países, donde cada obra aporta una mirada propia y abre una conversación más amplia entre culturas.

After Taiwan, the tour arrives in Hong Kong, at Illuminati Fine Art Gallery, as part of a project promoted by that proposes a meeting between artists from different countries, where each work brings its own perspective and opens a wider conversation between cultures.

Aquí no estoy pintando solo un fondo, estoy construyendo una estructura que tendrá que fundirse con la figura.

En esta obra quiero que los planos rectangulares tengan la misma importancia que el cuerpo. No serán solo el espacio donde aparece la figura: tendrán que entrar en relación con ella, tocarla, modificarla y confundirse en algunos puntos.

Por eso esta primera capa tiene más materia de lo habitual. Necesito que la estructura tenga presencia desde el inicio, antes de que la figura empiece a aparecer.

I am not painting a background. I am building a structure that will have to merge with the figure.

In this work, I want the rectangular planes to have the same importance as the body. They will not simply be the space where the figure appears: they will have to relate to it, touch it, modify it, and merge with it in some areas.

That is why this first layer has more material than usual. I need the structure to have presence from the beginning, before the figure starts to appear.

Durante mucho tiempo pensé que pintar exigía ir despacio. Ahora creo que es más complicado que eso. Hay partes del proceso que me piden velocidad, no pensar demasiado, dejar que la intuición trabaje más que los planes. Y hay otras que me piden justo lo contrario, frenar, valorar cada decisión, cuidar los detalles.

Lo difícil es no perder la soltura cuando toca cuidar, y no abandonar por impaciencia cuando toca esperar. Cuando no lo consigo, luego me toca repintar lo que salió con prisa.

Yo creo que aprender a pintar es también aprender a cambiar de ritmo a tiempo.

For a long time I thought painting meant going slowly. Now I think it is stranger than that. Some parts of the process ask me for speed, for not thinking too much, for letting intuition work more than plans. And others ask me for the opposite, to slow down, to weigh each decision, to care for the details.

The hard part is not losing looseness when it is time to take care, and not giving up out of impatience when it is time to wait. When I fail, I then have to repaint what came out of haste.

I think learning to paint is also learning to change pace in time. In your own work, are there also moments to rush and moments to slow down?
