Additionally to innovative smart home installations, we have started to distribute a product called ZALTO, due to our passion for good wines. A very good and enjoyable counterbalance
to smart homes, energy efficiency, security and advanced audio video systems.
The story behind is quite funny. Knowing the importance of a good wine glass to develop the taste of wines, we bought ourselves RIEDEL “Sommelier” glasses and enjoyed quite some good bottles of wine. This could already be the end of the story, if not one day, a good friend of mine and a wine connoisseur and Sommelier of a famous restaurant invited us to a wine tasting. (Luckily enough, we did not have to pay, because he brought a selection of Bordeaux wines, even some “Grand Cru Classes” from left and right side of the Gironde).
Of course, he served the wine in the same RIEDEL glasses we have bought a while ago, but additionally he put another glass in front of us, with the same wine.
Then he started with the explanations and descriptions of the first wine, a Margaux as far as I remember. These things can be sometimes very interesting, but sometimes you prefer drinking immediately, especially with such famous wines.
In this case, I had to be patient and when he asked us, to smell all the flavors, I found it really amazing and interesting, that flavors developed much better in the second glass.
Even more surprising was the fact, that also the taste of all wines, we have tried this evening, was significantly better in this glass. It felt like drinking a similar wine but a better year, or the big brother, or drinking a more elevated and more expensive wine from the same vineyard.
Another fact, that the second glass, (by the way it was a ZALTO Bordeaux glass, looked better and was much lighter and felt better in the hand), was not so important at that time, as the improvement of the taste.
Sharing this experience with my “old” friend, Leo Karner, one of Austria’s best and most famous racing cyclists from the 70ies and a real wine lunatic, he started to smile and told me that he already owns ZALTO glasses. Only a few days later he organized a meeting with one of the ZALTO owners and we agreed to distribute the glasses in Spain.
Meanwhile we are shipping to famous restaurants like El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Danni Garcia or wine producers like Bodegas Izadi, just to name some examples.
Later on, I learned about why this glass is the best in the market and recommended by wine journalists like Robert Parker. It is much lighter and flexible, it is produced without lead, which means a much higher melting point, resistance against clouding and also washable in a dishwasher (not a standard for mouth blown glasses) .
The beautiful form is also inspired with the angles as Greeks and Romans made their repositories to improve the taste.
Actually, I don’t care too much about those things but I do enjoy the wine even more than before.
