We are coming out of what seemed to be an unthinkable situation, something forced upon us.
Time was suddenly offered to us, to stop, to think, to reflect about everything and everyone without any distractions.
Some felt limited by this imposed seclusion, others welcomed this hermitage.
An opportunity to get rid of the obsolete and start new.

A chrysalis phenomenon is happening to our society.

Despite our reactions to this situation, we all share the same reflection that we can’t predict our future. We just agree, it will change.

We are not able to predict what will happen, but we can definitely decide how we go about it.
Therefore, based on what we can control, influence and what does us good, these are the actions we should keep doing.

The secret is to keep going.

When we burn down the borders will the haters inhale the fumes?

27.11.18
19:30h

Geopolitical borders not only divide the planet, but segment us internally. Therefore, in creating a world without borders we must also simultaneously unlearn our own embodied borders. But how do we do this work, and how will we change as a species in this future world?

BcmA cordially invites you to an experiment in polylingualism and involuntary action: “The interrupting body” – a lecture performance by Rishin Singh
“When we burn down the borders will the haters inhale the fumes?” – an intervention conceived by Rishin Singh within the lecture “Bottoming Autonomy” by Bill Dietz

This lecture performance night is being hosted as part of the exhibition “Die Grenzen unserer Welt”, which runs until December 4th. Check it out: https://www.facebook.com/events243004149709715/?ti=icl

Contemporary Art is for the Rich: a debate

21.11.18
19:30h

To be successful in the world of Contemporary Art - as an artist, curator, gallerist, critic, viewer, or collector - must one be a member of the significantly wealthy Class? Is all art which critiques the dominance of this Class within Contemporary Art, and society at large, either institutionally ignored or eventually co-opted, turned into extravagantly expensive economic instruments, emptying the work of its critical power?

Debaters:

Clementine Butler-Gallie (curator and co-director; East of Elsewhere)
Maria Isserlis (curator; Aperto Raum / Aki Aora)
Mohammad Salemy (curator and academic; The New Centre for Research & Practice)
Paul Sochacki (artist and editor; Arts of the Working Class)
Ivor Stodolsky (curator; Perpetuum Mobile / Artists at Risk)

Mediated by Rishin Singh

Audience participation is encouraged; the throwing of shoes is not. Drinks will be available before and after the debate.

This debate is being hosted as part of the exhibition “Die Grenzen unserer Welt”, which runs until December 4th. Check it out: https://www.facebook.com/events243004149709715/?ti=icl
