✨🖼Our new exhibition “Memories in form” also includes a series of unique hand-made batik tapestries by Daniel Dzonu
Clarke which he created during his artistic residency at Kokrobitey institute. 🌍 There he explored traditional West African textile making techniques and embraced the unpredictable nature of the
batik method while weaving in his own abstract style. 🌀🎨

He catalogued the shapes and symbols found amongst the trees surrounding him and began to document these as a new language of symbols. 🌿🌳 Once he collected enough of these, he reproduced them as batik textile patterns to adorn the series of tapestries. The tapestries celebrate the practical, medicinal and spiritual qualities of each of these powerful trees that hold such importance in the Ghanaian natural and cultural landscape. ✨🌱

Meet Mireia Ruiz and her Self Portrit. This painting is full of symbolism - let us take you through the intriguing and complex inner world of the artist:

1. Autoretrato (Self-Portrait) | 2023 | Mixed media - acrylic, crayon, airbrush | 93x130cm
2. The 6-fingered hand ✋represent's the power of Artificial Intelligence, and Ruiz's worries about its impact on human creativity. The bowerbird 🐦 looks for blue object - the artists often looks for recycled wood pieces for her art composition and she loves blue.
3. The artist's head is still an enigma, and the breat represents her longing to become a mother
4. The broken phone portraits the anxiety caused by the need of being connected via our phones, that love/hate relationship
5. The sandclock represents the passing of time, one's journey through life
6. The secrete passwords to unlock the artist's world are ingeniously noted on the sides of the canvas
