Several images flashed through my mind as I was having my oesophagogram performed with the barium swallow, with my head in profile, my trunk forward, and a spotlight pointed straight at me. As I sipped the slurry I could make out, out of the corner of my eye, the shadow cast by my head on the vertical stretcher. Contemplating the silhouette of the profile of my face, I was reminded, I don't know why, of the myth of Kora of Sicion, the first portrait artist according to Pliny. On the eve of her beloved's departure, the maiden of Corinth, charcoal in hand, traced the outline of his shadow, fixing that face, which perhaps she would never see again, on a wall. From that moment on I began to wonder how to transform that experience into an image.
