| We’re in Corral de la Morería with the exquisite Amalia Hornero, founder of Flamenco Route Madrid. Today, the camaraderie of the flamenco troupe is palpable — each member infusing the air with contagious enthusiasm and genuine love for their craft. The rhythmic guitar, haunting vocals, and fervent footwork synchronize seamlessly, and the dancers revel in the sheer delight of doing what they adore. As the performance unfolds, the atmosphere is charged with the elusive duende — which Amalia describes to us as an intangible, heightened state of passion, authenticity, expression, and magic. In their movements, we witness the dancers pouring their hearts out, and while we cannot understand all the lyrics, we can feel their heartache, triumph, and longing. The joy they feel seems like the giddy anticipation of someone deeply in love, their expressions a blend of joy and intense focus.
