Today we present this new addition to our catalog: this Bodhidharma sculpture in molded marble, reproduction based on traditional Chinese ceramic figure models.

Bodhidharma (called Dámó or Támó in Chinese) was a Buddhist monk of Indian origin who arrived in China during the Liu Song dynasty in the 6th century. He established himself in the Shaolin Monastery and founded the Chan Buddhist school, which later spread to Japan as Zen Buddhism. Bodhidharma is also considered the founder of martial arts such as Kung Fu.

Bodhidharma is often depicted as a bearded man covered in a red robe. In this figurine, he is portrayed with one bare foot peeking out from under the robe and holding a sandal in his hand.

All our sculptures are made from molded marble, also known as reconstituted marble, never through 3D printers. The molded marble casting process involves marble powder bonded with specific resins (we use cronolite), poured into silicone molds.

The immortal Don Quixote, a timeless figure

The silhouettes of Don Quixote and his squire Sancho Panza are easily recognisable. Among the articles we have in our extensive catalog, today we present this relief of Dionysus with Cupid, a reproduction made in molded marble from the work of the Danish artist Thorvaldsen, one of the foremost representatives of Neoclassicism. Bertel Thorvaldsen was a Danish neoclassical sculptor of the 19th century. In Khmer art from Angkor, there is an abundance of sculptures depicting divine beings from both Hindu and Buddhist religions. Among them, the images of Buddha stand out, often depicted with a serene and smiling face.

This Buddha head exhibits the typical characteristics of Khmer human representations in art: a smiling face, almond-shaped eyes, well-defined eyebrows often merging into one, and lips with outlined outer edges.

Angkor was the capital of the Cambodian Khmer Empire (9th to 15th centuries AD), which reached its peak during the 12th century. After the decline of Angkor, the vast cities and monastic complexes were abandoned and reclaimed by the jungle until their restoration began in the 20th century by archaeologists, turning it into a major tourist destination in recent decades. In this reproduction, we recreate an original work by the 19th-century Italian artist Raffaele Monti, who gained fame in his time for his skill in portraying veiled figures with special subtlety and delicacy. The original sculpture can be admired today in Chatsworth House, Derbyshire, England.
