These two framed pages from a series of comics I made during the pandemic are currently on show at Trazos, Cuenca.

"Home Alone I" & "Home Alone II" are a small snapshot into the humble routines and rituals of single life during quarantine. The outside world is empty but some of us found satisfaction and peace with ourselves during this time. Alone, but not lonely.

Thank you to Trazos & Eli for organising this wonderful exhibition and for inviting me to be a part of it!

It's hard to believe that the party of has finally been booted out of government in after 9 long years of the .

We should never forget the devastating bushfires in 2019/2020, the of this year or the unfolding disasters of islands sinking in the and in the . I hope now that the worst affected will finally be listened to, especially and that the various communities of my country can come together to heal the land.

Images are from my 2020 about the Black Summer Bushfires in Australia, "Hotter Than Hell".

For a long time I have put off drawing this picture, but the other day I decided to finally sit down and draw a self-portrait of myself as a clown, complete with my deflating balloon. It’s often true that comedians are really quite sad people, the jokes are a way to not cry all of the time.

I don’t mind that I have to put on a happy face and in fact, I am better for it but sometimes it is important to look at the (role-)self in the mirror (or sketchbook) and ask am I still this person?

At different stages of our lives, we identify ourselves as having a certain role, a role-self. Our role could be the carer, the naughty child any number of things. The great thing about role-selves is that they can be changed or discarded over time as needed.

A big part of being an artist is looking at art, and in the new exhibition at the Museo De Arte Abstracto Español Cuenca, Pablo Helguera's cartoons take a look at the art world.

A few years ago Helguera decided to use the new format of social media to start publishing single vignette cartoons about life in the art world.

Collectively known as "Artoons", these cartoons explore different aspects of the professional life of artists, curators, art collectors and the rarified world they move through.

I remember going into Trazos about a month or two ago and seeing this white printing ink and lush pad of black paper (yes, I have a paper fe**sh!) and thinking wouldn't my "Candy Darling" drawing look cool as a white on black paper block print? Well, yesterday I finally got around to carving the block and printing!

It's been over a year since I last did a block print so I went through a lot of paper before getting a print I was happy with. Printmaking does require a lot of patience as you learn how much ink you need to add and each time in the end is a surprise reveal! If you'd like to learn more about printmaking check out David Castellanos Monroy's article "Fine Art Prints" on my blog Reflections.

It's the final days to apply to be a part of this year's "Postales Desde el Limbo" - an annual exhibition of postcard artworks that is held in Zaragoza, Spain. Once you apply a package of three postcards is sent to you to create artworks in any medium or technique of your choice!

I ended up creating three collages using discarded pages from my zine "Therapy". Participation in "Postales Desde el Limbo" is free and open to artists anywhere. Funds from artworks sold are given to Centro de Solidaridad –Proyecto Hombre Zaragoza, a local organisation dedicated to helping people overcome addictions.

The exhibition "Distentio Animi" was inaugurated on 1 July at 8 p.m. in the Sala ACUA, to exhibit the works produced by the students enrolled in the Masters of Research in Visual Art Practices for the academic year 2020 / 2021 at UCLM University, Cuenca. As one of the students completing the Masters this year, I was invited to participate in the group exhibition.

"Distentio Animi" is the extension of the soul and it is said that it is through the soul that we really measure time. All the works in the exhibition are an expression of the artists' experience with time and memory. The exhibition will remain open until 25 July.

Last week I had the pleasure of attending a workshop on zine-making called "Tres Estados" at UCLM University. As part of the workshop, each of us created an art poster with the final layout design by Enrique Barco. I'm really happy with how the final poster came out and thought I would share it here!

The poster features a series of my recent portrait drawings, many of them created during . From left to right, top to bottom, they are:

Klaus Nomi, Shawn Tarver, Sui Zhen, Ana Maria Cobuleanu, self-portrait (with phone), Anna Piaggi, Lady Jaye & Genesis P. Orridge, Carla Morrison, and a random guy in Cuenca smoking a cigar while wearing his surgical mask on his head.

In my most recent post for the blog I talk about life in Spain during Easter last year and this year. As normal festivities continue to be suspended due to the pandemic, I look forward to the rebirth of freedom that mass-scale vaccinations could bring.

In the meantime, I am continuing to work on my comics and other projects. Pictured here are two recent collages "Ascension 1" and "Ascension 2" which I thought I would share as an Easter Egg of religious art. Happy Easter!
